The Skallagrímur men's basketball team, commonly known as Skallagrímur, is the men's basketball department of Ungmennafélagið Skallagrímur, based in Borgarnes, Iceland. History In 2018, Skallagrímur was promoted to the Úrvalsdeild karla. Following the 2018-2019 season, it was relegated back to 1. deild karla. Borgarnes
Borgarnes () is a town located on a peninsula at the shore of Borgarfjörður in Iceland and is the largest town in the Borgarbyggð municipality with a population of about 3800 residents. It is a main junction in Iceland and the gateway to the Snaefellsnes National Park. Iceland's capital Reykjavik is 69 kilometers from the center of Borgarnes. Birgir Mikaelsson
Birgir Mikaelsson (born 27 September 1965) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of Icelandic national team. In 1990, he won the national championships with KR. During his career, he played in four different decades. Early life Birgir was born in Akureyri, Iceland, before moving with his family to the capital city of Reykjavík at a young age. There he started playing basketball along with football and handball. Valur Snjólfur Ingimundarson (born 20 February 1962) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. He played for 20 seasons in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild and is its highest scoring player of all time. He won the Icelandic championship eight times during his career and the Icelandic Cup twice. Denmark Valur was a player-coach for Odense BK from 1995 to 1998 and helped the club achieve promotion up two levels in two seasons and to the Danish top-tier league in 1997. Sigtryggur Arnar Björnsson (born 7 March 1993) is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Tindastóll of the Úrvalsdeild karla and the Icelandic national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship in 2023 and the Icelandic Cup in 2018 with Tindastóll. Pétur Már Sigurðsson
Pétur Már Sigurðsson (born 15 April 1978) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach and a former player. He is currently the head coach of Vestri. He is the former head coach of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Stjarnan and former assistant coach of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. He coached the men's national team during the 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe in the absence of Peter Öqvist. The team finished third with two wins and two losses. Páll Axel Vilbergsson
Páll Axel Vilbergsson (born 4 January 1978) is an Icelandic former basketball player who played for 22 seasons in the Úrvalsdeild karla and was a two time national champion. He was also a member of the Icelandic national team from 1996 to 2009. In 2004 he was selected as the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. Pavel Ermolinskij (born 25 January 1987) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player of Ukrainian descent, a member of the Icelandic national team. He has won the Icelandic championship with KR seven times, in 2011 and 2014–2019. He played in the Spanish Liga ACB for several seasons, winning the Spanish King's Cup in 2005. Magnús Þór Gunnarsson
Magnús Þór Gunnarsson (born 7 February 1981) is an Icelandic basketball player who played twenty seasons in the Úrvalsdeild karla. He won the Icelandic championship five times and the Icelandic basketball cup three times. Icelandic national team Magnús played 77 games for the Icelandic national basketball team from 2001 to 2013, and was for a time the team's captain. Dragiša Šarić ( sr-cyr, Драгиша Шарић; 27 January 1961 – 19 July 2008) was a Serbian basketball player and coach. Career Club career Šarić played for several clubs in his country, most notably with the KK Partizan generation that won the 1991–92 Euroleague. Dimitar Karadžovski (born October 7, 1984) is a Macedonian professional basketball player who plays for Kožuv of the Macedonian First League. Professional career During his career, Karadžovski played for MZT Skopje, Ungmennafélagið Skallagrímur, Stjarnan, KK Pelister, KK Torus BC Rilski Sportist, KK Kozuv and KK Feni Industries. Axel Kárason (born 11 February 1983) is an Icelandic basketball player, who plays for Tindastóll in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla, and a former member of the Icelandic national team, where he participated at the EuroBasket 2015. Alexander Pavlovich Ermolinskij (russian: Александр Павлович Ермолинский; born November 11, 1959) is an Ukraninan-Icelandic basketball coach and a former basketball player.
