Six Flags Hill
Six Flags Hill is a hill located on Interstate 20 west of Atlanta, Georgia. It is about a mile west of the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park, and is a major reference point for Atlanta radio and television traffic reporters. Motorists travelling eastbound on I-20 typically get their first glimpse of downtown Atlanta when passing over Six Flags Hill. The entire hill is part of a unique geological formation called "the Buford Uprising." The size and location of the geological formation is unique and not in keeping the surrounding formations. Nearby, Sweetwater Creek State Park has the ruins of Antebellum textile factory which was built to harness the water energy associated with this uprising. Interstate 20
Interstate 20 (I‑20) is a major east–west Interstate Highway in the Southern United States. I-20 runs beginning at an interchange with Interstate 10, I-10 in Scroggins Draw, Texas, and ending at an interchange with Interstate 95, I-95 in Florence, South Carolina. Between Texas and South Carolina, I-20 runs through northern Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. Six Flags Over Georgia
Six Flags Over Georgia is a theme park located in Mableton, Georgia. Opened in 1967, it is the second park in the Six Flags chain following the original Six Flags Over Texas, which opened in 1961. Six Flags Over Georgia is one of three parks in the Six Flags chain to have been founded by Angus G. Wynne. As with other Six Flags parks, it features themes from the Warner Bros. Sweetwater Creek State Park
Sweetwater Creek State Park is a Georgia state park in east Douglas County, from downtown Atlanta. The park is named after Sweetwater Creek which runs through it. Cherokee people were forcibly removed from the area and it eventually became home to the New Manchester Manufacturing Company and mill town of New Manchester. During the American Civil War the textile mill and general store were burned down by the Union Army and the women and children taken away and eventually sent to Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana as refugees. Sweetwater became an official state park in 1972, driven in great part by the work of the Georgia Conservancy, an environmental organization that was formed during a meeting at Sweetwater Creek in 1967.
