Sivasankari
Sivasankari (born 14 October 1942) is an Indian author and activist who writes in Tamil. She is one of the four Tamil writers asked by the United States Library of Congress to record their voice as part of the South Asian article on Sivashankari. Early life Sivasankari was born in Madras. Including herself, all the children in her family were educated in the Sri Ramakrishna Mission and Sarada Vidyalaya schools. She then studied at SIET College for Women. Career Her novels were made into the films ''Avan Aval Adhu'' (1980) Novel ''Oru Singam Muyalagiradhu'' Directed by Muktha Srinivasan (125days) '' 47 Natkal'' (1981) directed by K. Balachander and starred Chiranjeevi and Jaya Prada. She is the author of the novel, which was made into a TV series called ''Subah'' on Doordarshan in 1987. Oru Manithanin Kathai
''Oru Manithanin Kathai'' () is a Tamil-language novel by Sivasankari. It was serialised in the magazine ''Ananda Vikatan'' from 1978 to 1979. The novel was translated in English under the title ''Tyagu'' by Uma Narayanan in 1990. Plot Background During her tenure as public relations officer of Citibank in the early 1970s, Sivasankari encountered many employees who were ostensibly sober during the day but heavily drinking at night parties. She was curious to know the reason behind their alcoholism, and wrote to Alcoholics Anonymous; after reading their pamphlets, Sivasankari saw alcoholism as a disease. She spent almost eight years working on the subject of ''Oru Manithanin Kathai'', and interacted with many psychiatrists as part of her research. ''47 Natkal'' () is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by K. Balachander. It was simultaneously made in Telugu as ''47 Rojulu'' (). The film stars Chiranjeevi, Jaya Prada and Anne Patricia. Based on the novel of the same name by Sivasankari, it revolves around Vaishali (Jaya Prada) and how her marriage to Kumar (Chiranjeevi) lasts only 47 days. The Tamil version was released on 17 July 1981 and the Telugu version on 3 September 1981. Plot Actress Saritha comes to a small town to talk to Vaishali, because she is about to play her in a film based on her life. Vaishali suffers from hysteria and angrily shuts out Saritha. The story is now told in flashback form, when Vaishali's brother tells Saritha about her marriage to Kumar, lasting for only 47 days. ''Nandu'' () is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Mahendran. The film stars Suresh and Ashwini. It is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by Sivasankari. The film was released on 17 April 1981 and failed commercially. Plot Ramkumar Sharma is a sickly engineer living in Lucknow in a large family. He suffers from asthma and does not like the behaviour of his autocratic father, but is deeply attached to his loving mother. Unable to get along with his father who compels him to marry a girl of his choice, Sharma leaves for Madras. He finds a job there and meets Seetha. ''Avan Aval Adhu'' () is a 1980 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Muktha Srinivasan and written by Visu. The film stars Sivakumar, Lakshmi, Sripriya and Thengai Srinivasan.
