Sisseton Milbank Railroad
The Sisseton Milbank Railroad (Reporting Mark SMRR) is a railroad subsidiary of the Twin Cities and Western Railroad that operates between its namesake, the cities of Sisseton, South Dakota, Sisseton and Milbank, South Dakota, Milbank in South Dakota. The Sisseton Milbank Railroad operates former Dakota Rail trackage, which is a former Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad, Chicago, Milwakuee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad branchline. The railroad mostly ships grain from the elevator in Sisseton to Milbank to be shipped out on the BNSF Railway, BNSF or Twin Cities and Western Railroad line. They also store rail cars on this line when grain shipments are not needed. Currently the railroad ships about 2,500,000 bushels of grain per year, or a little over 500 carloads annually. Twin Cities And Western Railroad
The Twin Cities and Western Railroad is a railroad operating in the U.S. state of Minnesota which started operations on July 27, 1991. Trackage includes the former Soo Line Railroad "Ortonville Line", originally built as the first part of the Pacific extension of the Milwaukee Road. This main line extends from Hopkins, Minnesota (a Western suburb of the Twin Cities) to Appleton, Minnesota. The line was originally built between Hopkins and Cologne, Minnesota in 1876 by Hastings and Dakota Railroad. In 1913, the Milwaukee Road rerouted it, reducing the curves. The line was eventually extended to the Pacific. As of 1991, the TCWR also has trackage rights over the BNSF Railway and the Canadian Pacific Railway. Dakota Rail, Inc. was a short-line railroad which operated in South Dakota and Minnesota. It operated from 1982 until 2001. From 1995 onward it was a subsidiary of RailAmerica. History Dakota Rail was founded in 1982 to operate the Sisseton Branch, a railway line between Sisseton, South Dakota, and Milbank, South Dakota, owned by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific (Milwaukee Road). The Milwaukee Road was in the throes of its final bankruptcy; barley shippers in the Sisseton area sought to ensure that service would continue. Kristi Lynn Noem (; née Arnold; born November 30, 1971) is an American politician serving as the 33rd governor of South Dakota since 2019.
