Sisoridae
Sisoridae is a family of catfishes. These Asian catfishes live in fast-moving waters and often have adaptations that allow them to adhere to objects in their habitats. The family includes about 235 species. Taxonomy The family Sisoridae is recognized as a natural, monophyletic group based on morphological and molecular evidence. It is divided into two subfamilies, Sisorinae and Glyptosterninae (glyptosternoids). The Sisorinae contain the five genera ''Bagarius'', ''Gagata'', '' Gogangra'', '' Nangra'', and ''Sisor''. The Glyptosterninae contain three tribes. Glyptothoracini contains only the genus ''Glyptothorax'' and Pseudecheneidina contains only the genus ''Pseudecheneis''. The remaining genera, '' Chimarrichthys'', '' Exostoma'', '' Glaridoglanis'', ''Glyptosternon'', ''Myersglanis'', '' Oreoglanis'', '' Parachiloglanis'', '' Pareuchiloglanis'', and '' Pseudexostoma'', are contained in the tribe Glyptosternina. The monophyly of the entire family and the tribe Glyptosterninae a ...

Glyptothorax
''Glyptothorax'' is a genus of catfishes order Siluriformes of the family Sisoridae. It is the most species-rich and widely distributed genus in the family with new species being discovered on a regular basis. These species are distributed in the Black Sea basin, northern Turkey, south and east to the Yangtze River drainage in China and south throughout Indo-China to Java, Indonesia. They are found in Asia Minor (in the Tigris and Euphrates River drainages) and southwards to Southeast Asia. The genus is very diverse in the Indian subcontinent. Southeast Asian species tend to have restricted distributions. Description This genus is easily distinguished from other sisorids by having an adhesive apparatus on the thorax with grooves parallel or oblique to the longitudinal axis of the body, as opposed to grooves transverse to the longitudinal axis of body or the thoracic adhesive apparatus entirely absent. The dorsal fin and pectoral fins have strong spines. The dorsal fin spine is ...

Oreoglanis
''Oreoglanis'' is a genus of fish in the family Sisoridae native to Asia. These fish live in fast-flowing streams in China, mainland Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. They are mainly distributed in the Mekong, upper Salween and Irrawaddy River drainages. They range from the Brahmaputra basin to the Lam River drainage in central Vietnam. They are easily distinguished from other catfishes by their strongly depressed head and body and greatly enlarged paired fins that have been modified to form an adhesive apparatus. The flattened shape of these fish and the large pectoral and pelvic fins provide essential adhesion in the fast-flowing waters they live in. Taxonomy The taxonomy of this group is currently under discussion and changes seem inevitable as the group is suspected to be non-monophyletic. Based on morphology, ''Oreoglanis'' has been divided into two species groups. According to the original description of these groups, the ''O. siamensis'' species group is disting ...

Pseudexostoma
''Pseudexostoma'' is a genus of fish in the family Sisoridae endemic to China. These species are restricted to the upper Salween (Nujiang River) and one upper branch of the Irrawaddy ( Dayinjiang River) in China. ''P. brachysoma'' is known only from the middle and lower Nujiang River. ''P. yunnanensis'' is only known from the upper Dayinjiang. These rivers were once connected, but are now separated. Also, the environment and temperature of the Nujiang River became greatly different between the northern and southern areas, leading to speciation. Taxonomy ''Glyptosternum yunnanesis'' was first described in 1935. However, due to its unique teeth, a separate genus ''Pseudexostoma'' was erected in 1979 for this species. The same year, a subspecies of ''P. yunnanensis'' was described, ''P. y. brachysoma''. However, it has become apparent that these two groups represent different species. Also, a third species, ''P. longipterus'', was described in 2007.Zhou, W., Yang, Y., Li, X. & Li, M ...

Pareuchiloglanis
''Pareuchiloglanis'' is a genus of sisorid catfishes native to Asia. These species are rheophilic catfish chiefly found in the headwaters of major rivers in South and East Asia. They originate from the Brahmaputra drainage in India, east and south to the Yangtze drainage in China and the Annamese Cordillera drainages in southern Vietnam. Two species are known from the Mekong River: ''P. myzostoma'' and ''P. gracilicaudata''. Four species are known from the (upper Mekong River) drainage of China: ''P. abbreviatus'', ''P. gracilicaudata'', ''P. myzostoma'' and ''P. prolixdorsalis''. Taxonomy The monophyly of this genus remains doubtful. In 2007, a study rejected the monophyly of this genus. The premaxillary tooth bands in the catfish tribe Glyptosternina are important in identifying genera; in ''Pareuchiloglanis'', the tooth band is divided into two patches, appearing in two types. In one type, the premaxillary tooth patches appear separate, divided down the middle by a deeper ind ...

Exostoma
''Exostoma'' is a genus of sisorid catfishes native to Asia. These species are distributed in the Brahmaputra drainage of northeast India, and east and south to the Salween drainages in Burma. ''E. berdmorei'' is found in the Sittang and Salween drainages in Burma. ''E. labiatum'' is known from the Brahmaputra drainage in northeast India, but has also been recorded in the Salween drainage in Burma, the Ayeyarwady drainage in China, and the Brahmaputra drainage in Tibet and Burma. ''E. stuarti'' is from the Ayeyarwady River of Burma and India; however, it has not been collected since its original discovery. ''E. labiatum'' is found in mountain rapids. In a 2007 checklist of sisorid and erethistid catfishes, Thomson lists ''E. stuarti'' and ''E. vinciguerrae'' as valid species. In a 2007 checklist of catfishes, Ferraris lists these two species as species inquerendae, noting that these species are either treated as valid or as synonyms of ''E. labiatum''. Species These are the curr ...

Catfish
Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat's whiskers, catfish range in size and behavior from the three largest species alive, the Mekong giant catfish from Southeast Asia, the wels catfish of Eurasia, and the piraíba of South America, to detritivores (species that eat dead material on the bottom), and even to a tiny parasitic species commonly called the candiru, ''Vandellia cirrhosa''. Neither the armour-plated types nor the naked types have scales. Despite their name, not all catfish have prominent barbels or "whiskers". Members of the Siluriformes order are defined by features of the skull and swimbladder. Catfish are of considerable commercial importance; many of the larger species are farmed or fished for food. Many of the smaller species, particularly the genus ''Corydoras'', are important in the aquarium hobby. Many catfish are nocturnal,

Gogangra
''Gogangra'' is a genus of sisorid catfishes native to Asia. Taxonomy ''G. viridescens'' was previously placed in the genus '' Nangra''. In 1998, the genus was given the name ''Gangra'', but this name was already preoccupied by the genus ''Gangra'' of lepidopterans, so ''Gogangra'' was proposed as a replacement name in 2001. ''G. laevis'' was described in 2004. Species There are currently two recognized species in this genus: * '' Gogangra laevis'' Ng, 2005 * '' Gogangra viridescens'' (Hamilton, 1822) Distribution ''Gogangra'' species are distributed in the Ganges, Meghna, and Brahmaputra drainages, India and Bangladesh. ''G. viridescens'' is known from the Ganges and Brahmaputra drainages of India and Bangladesh. It is also reported from the Indus drainage in Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan. ''G. laevis'' is from the Yamuna and Meghna River drainages of the lower Brahmaputra River drainage in Bangladesh. ''G. viridescens'' is found in the upper reaches of rivers. Description ''G ...

Sisor
''Sisor'' is a genus of catfishes native to Asia. Taxonomy ''Sisor'' was previously monotypic, containing only ''S. rabdophorus'', prior to a review of the genus in 2003 in which the three species ''S. chennuah'', ''S. rheophilus'', and ''S. torosus'' were described. ''S. barakensis'' was described in 2005. ''S. rabdophorus'' is sometimes spelled ''S. rhabdophorus''; this is meant to correct the misspelling of the Greek word ''rhabdos'' meaning ''rod''. However, this is not a valid emendation. Species There are currently six recognized species in this genus: * '' Sisor barakensis'' Vishwanath & Darshan, 2005 * ''Sisor chennuah'' Ng & Lahkar, 2003 * '' Sisor pakistanicus'' Javed & Mirza, 2011Javed, M.N. & Mirza, M.R.
