Sir William Wray, 1st Baronet, Of Ashby
Sir William Wray, 1st Baronet, of Ashby (1625 – 17 October 1669) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1645 and 1660. Wray was the son of Sir Christopher Wray of Ashby, Lincolnshire, and his wife, Albinia Cecil, daughter of Edward Cecil, 1st Viscount Wimbledon. He was grandson of Sir William Wray, 1st Baronet, of Glentworth. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn on 5 November 1638. In the Civil War, his father raised a regiment in the Parliamentarian army and he may have served as a captain. He succeeded to the estates of Ashby on the death of his father in February 1645 and was travelling abroad later in the year when he was elected Member of Parliament for Great Grimsby as a recruiter to the Long Parliament. He was underage and it was said that at this time he "little minded anything except drinking and folly". He was excluded under Pride's Purge in 1648. The House of Commons of England was the lower house of the Parliament of England (which incorporated Wales) from its development in the 14th century to the union of England and Scotland in 1707, when it was replaced by the House of Commons of Great Britain after the 1707 Act of Union was passed in both the English and Scottish parliaments at the time. In 1801, with the union of Great Britain and Republic of Ireland, Ireland, that house was in turn replaced by the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Origins The Parliament of England developed from the Magnum Concilium that advised the English monarch in medieval times. Baronets In The Baronetage Of England
A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Adrian Scrope (Royalist)
Sir Adrian Scrope or Scroope (c. 1616–1666) of South Cockerington, Cockerington, Lincolnshire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1661 to 1666. He was a Cavaliers, Royalist officer in the English Civil War. Biography Scrope was the son of Sir Gervase Scrope of Cockerington and his first wife Catherine Hungerford, daughter of John Hungerford of Chisbury, Wiltshire. He was educated at Westminster School and was admitted at St John's College, Cambridge on 18 May 1632, aged 16. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1634. At the start of the civil war his father raised a regiment for King Charles I of England, Charles I, and was left for dead at Battle of Edgehill, Edgehill, where he received sixteen wounds, but survived to 1655. Edward King (Parliamentarian)
Edward King (c. 1606 – 1681) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England, House of Commons from 1660. He supported the Roundhead, Parliamentary cause in the English Civil War. He was a rigid Presbyterian and protector of Nonconformists after the Restoration. Early life King was the son of Richard King of Ashby de la Launde and his wife Elizabeth Colly, daughter of Anthony Colly of Glaston, Rutland and MP for Rutland (UK Parliament constituency), Rutland. He was a student of Gray's Inn in 1623 but delayed being called to the bar for over 20 years. On the outbreak of the Civil War, he became a captain of foot in the Parliamentary army. He took part in the first attack on Newark, and was indicted for treason at the Lincolnshire assizes in 1643.
