Sir William Sutherland Cup
The Sir William Sutherland Cup, more commonly known simply as the ''Sutherland Cup'', is a trophy in the sport of shinty. It is the national cup competition for ''junior'' sides, the equivalent of the Camanachd Cup for those sides in lower league competitioThe current (2017) holders are Lochside Rovers. History The trophy was donated by Sir William Sutherland M.P. in order to allow "junior" (i.e. small clubs) the opportunity for national competitioand was first played for in 1923 with Newtonmore Camanachd Club, Newtonmore defeating North Bute 3-2. Sir William had previously donated another cup of the same name for competition. Kilmory Camanachd
Kilmory Camanachd is a shinty club from Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland. The club was founded in 1977 in its present form. The club plays in South Division One and has a reserve side in the Bullough cup. The club is associated with Dunadd camanachd (the ladies team) History The original Kilmory Shinty Club was founded in 1914 and had success in the 1930s. After the Second World War, the club reformed as Kilmory United and played until 1955. The club reformed in 1977, the players being school leavers and some more experienced players who had come to live in the Mid Argyll area. This team disbanded in 1994 due to team raising difficulties. The present Kilmory Camanachd Club was re-formed in 1998 Kilmory have won the following major trophies since 1977, Division Two Fraser Cup in 1978–79, 1985–86, 1988–89, 1991–92 and 1999–00; Bullough Cup in 1979 and 1992. Skye Camanachd
Skye Camanachd is a shinty team from the Isle of Skye, Highland, Scotland. It plays in the Premier Division and has a reserve team in North Division One, as well as a Ladies team in the WCA National Division One and a Ladies reserve team in the WCA Development League. The club is based at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Early history Skye had a strong tradition of playing shinty on the Old Celtic New Year, and there were a Portree Club and a Bernisdale Club in existence in the 1880s. However, Skye Camanachd in its present form came into being in 1892, winning the first ever MacTavish Cup. The club was a founding member of the Camanachd Association and entered the Camanachd Cup despite mainland clubs trying to force them to play on the mainland. Kincraig Camanachd Club is a shinty team from Kincraig, Badenoch, Scotland. The club's only team withdrew from North Division 3 in 2007 due to a lack of players, but re-entered the league in 2008, however Kincraig withdrew yet again in 2009. Kilmallie Shinty Club
Kilmallie Shinty Club is a shinty team from Caol, Fort William, Scotland. The club most recently achieved prominence in the all-Fort William Camanachd Cup Final in 2005. History The club was founded in 1929 and is named after the parish of Kilmallie, within which the team plays. They were given a pitch at Corpach by James Weir of Annat Farm, where games took place until the pulp mill opened and they relocated to Canal Parks in Caol. The club has never folded or amalgamated with another club. Having won the MacGillvary Senior League in 1959 and 1960, the club won the Camanachd Cup in 1964 against Inveraray in Fort William but then fell on hard times, falling as low as North Division Four. The club slowly made progress from this low ebb by a concentration on youth policy and they climbed the leagues and are now a fixture in the Premier Division. Lovat Shinty Club
Lovat Shinty Club is a shinty club from Kiltarlity, Inverness-shire, Scotlandbr> The club was formed in 188and has a healthy rivalry with near neighbours Beauly Shinty Club, Beauly. The club takes its name from the area within which it plays in and shared this name with the late Second World War hero, Lord Lovat. History Founded in 1888, the club has never folded but did merge with Beauly Shinty Club, Beauly early in the 20th Century and won the Camanachd Cup in 1912/13 as the combined team. After the first war, the team also reached the final in 1925. In 1953 was Lovat's finest hour, achieving the Grand Slam, winning every single competitiothey entered at Senior and Junior level, they were the first club to ever achieve this feat. Boleskine Camanachd
Boleskine Camanachd is a shinty club from Loch Ness-side, Scotland. They play in the Marine Harvest North Division Two. The club in its present form has existed as such since 1953. History Boleskine Camanachd has been in existence in one form or another for over 100 years. Initially called Stratherrick, the team played at various venues throughout the Stratherrick area, a glen which lies barely two miles to the south of the village of Foyers, running parallel with The Great Glen. A team from Foyers was formed in 1898 after the completion of The British Aluminium production works at the village in 1894. These teams ran concurrently and met on many occasions over the period leading up to the first amalgamation of these teams in the late summer of 1927. Glenurquhart Shinty Club
Glenurquhart Shinty Club is a shinty team which plays in Drumnadrochit on the banks of Loch Ness, Scotland. It draws its players from the part of the Great Glen which encompasses Drumnadrochit, Lewiston and Glenurquhart. The club has been existence since 1885. They won their first senior trophy, the MacAulay Cup in 2012. After 2013 and 2014 saw them lose two successive MacTavish Cups, they are currently the holders as of 2015. The club presently has two teams, with Glenurquhart currently playing in the Premier Division (shinty), Marine Harvest Premiership and the Glenurquhart 2nd's playing in the North Division One (shinty), North Division One. Glenorchy Camanachd
Glenorchy Camanachd is a shinty club from Dalmally, Scotland. In 2022, Glenorchy combined with Taynuilt at senior level to field a team as Cruachanside. History Old letters and poetry show that organised shinty was played in Dalmally in and about 1880. These games were played by teams from each side of the River Orchy for a cup presented by a Mr Macdonald, who had returned from Australia. The contests took place on New Year's Day and continued up to 1932. While the game continued to be played in the district, it was not until 1947 that Glenorchy Camanachd was formed. After a period of some success in the 1950s, a severe shortage of players forced the club to fold in 1960 but it was re-formed in 1965 and has played continuously since then. As a junior team the Munro Shield was won in 1952 and 1959, the Campbell Cup in 1958, the Bullough Cup in 1973 and the Sutherland Cup in 1990. Oban Celtic
Oban Celtic (; ) is a shinty team from Oban, Argyll, Scotland. The club won South Division One in 2016. History The Club was founded in 1927 due to a plethora of players being available who could not get a game for either the senior or the junior side of Oban Camanachd. The Club were highly successful from the start, winning the Bullough Cup in their first year and reaching the Camanachd Cup Final in 1937, where they defeated Newtonmore. They won the Camanachd Cup five times in all, and they have also been runners up on four other occasions. They were also South Senior Champions 12 times before reconstruction. The Club has fallen on hard times in the new millennium, being relegated from the old National Division One to South Division One in 2004 and then being consigned to South Division Two due to a poor league position at the time of league reconstruction. Lochaber Camanachd is a shinty club based in Spean Bridge, Lochaber, Scotland. The club's senior team play in the Marine Harvest Premiership while a reserve team plays in the North Division Two. Lochcarron Camanachd
Lochcarron Camanachd is a shinty club from Wester Ross, Scotland. History Founded in 1883, Lochcarron Camanachd is one of the oldest in the west Highlands. In its first century the Club won the Strathdearn Cup eight times and the Sutherland Cup six times as well as winning its league division on many occasions. The early nineties were a particular success for Lochcarron, as having temporarily reduced to one team, they went from North Division Four to the Premier Division in quick succession The first team reached the club's only senior final, the Macaulay Cup final in 2001, where they were beaten 3–0 by Inveraray.
