Sir William Glasgow Memorial
The Sir William Glasgow Memorial is a heritage-listed statue of Sir William Glasgow in Post Office Square at 270 Queen Street, Brisbane CBD, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Daphne Mayo and built from 1961 to 1964. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 13 May 2004. Set on a granite plinth, the statue is a naturalistic bronze figure of Sir William Glasgow, wearing the uniform of an officer of the Australian Light Horse and holding a pair of field glasses. The statue was one of the last commissioned works of sculptor Daphne Mayo. It was commissioned in 1961 and completed in 1964. It was dedicated in a ceremony on Remembrance Day (11 November) 1966 by Sir Arthur Fadden (Australian Prime Minister in 1941). Brisbane City is the central suburb and central business district of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is colloquially referred to as the "Brisbane CBD" or "the city". It is located on a point on the northern bank of the Brisbane River, historically known as ''Meanjin'', ''Mianjin'' or ''Meeanjin'' in the local Aboriginal Australian dialect. Sir Arthur Fadden
Sir Arthur William Fadden, (13 April 189421 April 1973) was an Australian politician who served as the 13th prime minister of Australia from 29 August to 7 October 1941. He was the leader of the Country Party from 1940 to 1958 and also served as federal treasurer for nearly ten years (1940–1941, 1949–1958). Fadden was born in Ingham, Queensland, to Irish immigrant parents. He was raised in Walkerston, and left school at the age of 15. He was appointed town clerk of Mackay in 1916, but following the 1918 cyclone moved to Townsville and opened an accountancy firm. He was elected to the Townsville City Council in 1930, and in 1932 was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Country and Progressive National Party. Fadden lost his seat in 1935, but the following year won a by-election to the federal Division of Darling Downs. Wide Bay Regiment
The 47th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army. It was originally raised in 1916 for service during the First World War. The battalion then took part in the fighting in the trenches of the Western Front in France and Belgium, before being disbanded in early 1918 to provide reinforcements for other Australian units that were suffering from a manpower shortage following the German spring offensive. In 1921, it was re-raised as a part-time unit of the Citizens Force, which later became the Militia. During this time it was based in south-east Queensland and in 1927 it became known as the "Wide Bay Regiment". During the Second World War the 47th Battalion took part in fighting in New Guinea and Bougainville, before being disbanded again in January 1946. One Mile is a suburb of Ipswich in the City of Ipswich, Queensland, Australia. In the One Mile had a population of 2,077 people. History One Mile was known as Moopi Moopi Pa by the Quandamooka people. The origin of the suburb name is from its approximate distance from the Ipswich CBD. ANZAC Square is a heritage-listed town square and war memorial located between Ann Street and Adelaide Street (opposite Post Office Square), in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
