Sir Roger Palmer, 1st Baronet
Sir Roger Palmer, 1st Baronet (1729 – 25 January 1790) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Palmer was elected as a Member of Parliament for Jamestown in the Irish House of Commons in 1761. In 1768 he was returned for the Portarlington constituency, sitting for that seat until 1783. On 29 May 1777 he was created a baronet, of Castle Lackin in the Baronetage of Ireland Baronets are a rank in the British aristocracy. Anglo-Irish people () denotes an ethnic, social and religious grouping who are mostly the descendants and successors of the English Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. They mostly belong to the Anglican Church of Ireland, which was the established church of Ireland until 1871, or to a lesser extent one of the English dissenting churches, such as the Methodist church, though some were Roman Catholics. They often defined themselves as simply "British", and less frequently "Anglo-Irish", "Irish" or "English". A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. A baronetcy is the only British hereditary honour that is not a peerage, with the exception of the Anglo-Irish Black Knights, White Knights, and Green Knights (of whom only the Green Knights are extant). Thomas Kelly (1723–1809) was an Irish barrister, judge and politician, who held the office of Serjeant-at-law (Ireland). He sat briefly in the Irish House of Commons and was then appointed a justice of the Court of Common Pleas (Ireland).
