Sir Richard Butler, 5th Baronet (1699 – 25 November 1771) was an Irish politician and baronet. Early life He was the eldest son of James Butler and Frances ( Abney) Parker Butler. Portarlington was a parliamentary borough partly in King's County (in the twentieth century renamed County Offaly) but mostly in Queen's County (now County Laois). It returned two members to the Parliament of Ireland, from 1692 until the Union of Ireland and Great Britain on 1 January 1801. Benjamin Burton (MP)
Major-General Benjamin Burton (10 March 1855 – 6 August 1921) was a British Army officer. Military career Burton was commissioned into the Royal Artillery on 9 March 1875. He saw action in South Africa during the Second Boer War for which he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He went on to become Commander, Royal Artillery for 1st Division in September 1907 and General Officer Commanding the Northumbrian Division in the UK in March 1912. He handed over command of his division and retired just before the division was deployed to France in April 1915. Robert Burton (politician)
Robert Burton (8 February 1577 – 25 January 1640) was an English author and fellow of Oxford University, who wrote the encyclopedic tome ''The Anatomy of Melancholy''. Born in 1577 to a comfortably well-off family of the landed gentry, Burton attended two grammar schools and matriculated into Brasenose College, Oxford, in 1593, age 15. Burton's education at Oxford was unusually lengthy, possibly drawn out by an affliction of Melancholia, melancholy, and saw an early transfer to Christ Church, Oxford, Christ Church. Burton received an MA and BD, and by 1607 was qualified as a tutor. As early as 1603, Burton indulged his early literary creations at Oxford, including some Latin poems, a now-lost play performed before and panned by James VI and I, King James I himself, and his only surviving play: an academic satire called ''Philosophaster''. The Great Slave Auction
The Great Slave Auction (also called the Weeping Time) was an auction of enslaved Africans held at Ten Broeck Race Course, near Savannah, Georgia, United States, on March 2 and 3, 1859. Slaveholder and absentee plantation owner Pierce Mease Butler authorized the sale of approximately 436 men, women, children, and infants to be sold over the course of two days. The sale's proceeds went to satisfy Butler's significant debt, much of it from gambling. The auction was the largest single sale of slaves in U.S. history. The Signing of the United States Constitution occurred on September 17, 1787, at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention, representing 12 states (all but Rhode Island, which declined to send delegates), endorsed the Constitution created during the four-month-long convention. Richard Trench (politician)
Richard Trench (1710–1768) was an Irish politician and the ancestor of the Earls of Clancarty. He was the second son of Frederick Trench and his wife Elizabeth Eyre, daughter of John Eyre. Trench represented Banagher in the Irish House of Commons from 1735 to 1671. Subsequently he sat for Galway County, the same constituency his father had represented before, until his death in 1768. He served as colonel of Militia Dragoons of County Galway. On 13 March 1732, Trench married Frances Power, only daughter of David Power. They had five daughters and six sons. Trench was buried at Ballinasloe. His third and eldest surviving son William was raised to the Peerage of Ireland.
