Sir John Franklin High School
École Sir John Franklin High School is a high school in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, operated by Yellowknife Education District No. 1. The school is named for the explorer Sir John Franklin. Sir John Franklin (SJFHS) offers the French immersion program and a comprehensive fine arts program including music, drama and art. On a regular day, the school follows a modified block schedule, consisting of Day 1 and Day 2. School is in session from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM from Mondays through Fridays. Facility SJFHS first opened in 1958 as a new Federal School for the Northwest Territories. It underwent expansions in 1964, 1969, 1974 and a major renovation in 2003. Yellowknife
Yellowknife (; Dogrib: ) is the capital, largest community, and only city in the Northwest Territories, Canada. It is on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake, about south of the Arctic Circle, on the west side of Yellowknife Bay near the outlet of the Yellowknife River. Yellowknife and its surrounding water bodies were named after a local Dene tribe, who were known as the "Copper Indians" or "Yellowknife Indians", today incorporated as the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. Block Scheduling
Block scheduling or blocking is a type of academic scheduling used in schools in the American K-12 system, in which each pupil has fewer classes per day. It is more common in middle and high schools than in primary schools. Each class is scheduled for a longer period of time than normal (e.g. 90 minutes instead of 50). In one form of block scheduling, a single class will meet every day for a number of days, after which another class will take its place. In another form, daily classes rotate through a changing daily cycle. Blocks offer more concentrated experiences of subjects, with fewer, usually half as many if going through a schedule transfer, classes daily. Nancy Uqquujuq Karetak-Lindell (born December 10, 1957) is a former Canadian politician. Previously she was a financial comptroller and held councillor positions for the Municipal Hamlet and District Education Authority in Arviat, Nunavut. Karetak-Lindell ran for a seat in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal candidate in the 1997 federal election in the riding of Nunavut, becoming the first female MP for the Eastern Arctic. Kevin Koe ( ; born January 11, 1975) is a Canadian curler. Koe is a two-time World champion and four-time Canadian champion. He was the skip of the Canadian men's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Northern Arts And Cultural Centre
The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. It is the only performing arts centre in the NWT. The 313 seat Centre opened May 3, 1984. Created by Yellowknife residents with major support from The Globe and Mail newspaper, the Centre was built with government, business, foundation and individual contributions from across Canada.
