Sir James Williams-Drummond, 4th Baronet
Sir James Hamlyn Williams Williams-Drummond (13 January 1857 - 15 June 1913) was a Welsh landowner who served as Lord Lieutenant of Carmarthenshire from 1898 until his death in 1913. WWilliams-Drummond was born on 13 January 1857, the eldest son of Sir James Drummond and his wife Mary Eleanor, daughter of Sir James Hamlyn-Williams of Edwinsford, former MP for Carmarthenshire. Sir James Hamlyn, 1st Baronet
Sir James Hamlyn, 1st Baronet (1735–1811) (born James Hammet) of Clovelly Court in Devon, and of Edwinsford, Carmarthenshire, Wales, was a Member of Parliament (United Kingdom), Member of Parliament (MP) for Carmarthen (UK Parliament constituency), Carmarthen 1793–1802. He served as Sheriff of Devon in 1767–8. He was created a baronet in 1795. He not only inherited a large estate in Devon from his wealthy childless great-uncle, but also married a wealthy Welsh heiress. Origins James Hammett was born in October 1735, the eldest son of Richard Hammett (1707–1766) of Kennerland, in the parish of Clovelly, Devon, by his wife Elizabeth Risdon (1710–1787), daughter and sole heiress of Philip Risdon, Gentleman. 1889 Carmarthenshire County Council Election
The first election to the Carmarthenshire County Council was held in January 1889. It was followed by the 1892 election. Overview of the result 1889 was one of those landmark years in the history of Welsh Liberalism, a coming of age symbolized by the triumph across Wales of Liberal candidates in the inaugural county council elections. Candidates Most of the seats were contested by Liberal and Conservative candidates, although in a number of cases rival Liberals fought each other. The number of unopposed returns was small. Outcome There were a large number of contested elections and the majorities were small in most instances. The Liberals won a large majority of the seats with only nine Conservatives returned. West Carmarthenshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
West Carmarthenshire was a parliamentary constituency in Wales which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It was created for the 1885 general election, when the old two-member Carmarthenshire constituency was divided into two new single-member seats: East Carmarthenshire and West Carmarthenshire, both of which were in turn abolished for the 1918 general election. Boundaries The constituency included the Sessional Divisions of Carmarthen, Llanboidy, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth, Newcastle Emlyn, and St Clears, and parts of the Sessional Divisions of Llandilo and Llandovery.
