Sir James Stronge, 5th Baronet
Sir James Henry Stronge, 5th Baronet (8 December 1849 – 20 May 1928) was an Irish barrister, footballer and politician. Stronge was educated at Eton College and Brasenose College, Oxford. He was pursuing a legal career when he inherited Tynan Abbey and succeeded his father, Sir John Stronge, 4th Baronet. He graduated from Lincoln's Inn in 1874. Stronge was appointed High Sheriff of Tyrone in 1880 and High Sheriff of Armagh in 1885. He played for Old Etonians in the 1875 and 1876 FA Cup Finals. He also held the position of Imperial Grand Master of the Orange Institution and was a Major in the 4th Battalion of Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was one of 30 delegates to sit on the Ulster Unionist Council, which directed the policy of Ulster Unionism during the next 15 years and during the Home Rule crisis and the foundation of the partition of Ireland. William Lyons (Orangeman)
William Henry Holmes Lyons (31 July 1843 – 27 March 1924) was the High Sheriff of Antrim in 1904. He was a political leader who fought to maintain the union between Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He was born in Belfast and educated at Harrow School and in France. He intended to pursue a military career and passed his examinations with distinction, but owing to defective eyesight (he lost an eye playing rackets at Harrow) he was unable to enter the Army. Mr Lyons became a prominent Unionist. He was a member of the Orange Institution and in December 1915, he was promoted to the position of Sovereign Grand Master of the Orange Lodge of Ireland. For fifty years he was a prominent member of the Black Institution. He was also Grand Master of the Imperial Grand Black Chapter of the British Commonwealth. John Henry Crichton, 4th Earl Erne, (16 October 1839 – 2 December 1914), styled Viscount Crichton from 1842 to 1885, was an Anglo-Irish peer and Conservative politician. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Walter Pitt-Taylor
General Sir Walter William Pitt-Taylor, (30 August 1878 – 22 November 1950) was a British Army officer who commanded the 3rd Infantry Division from 1932 to 1934. Military career Pitt-Taylor was commissioned into the Army Militia as a second lieutenant in the 5th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade (The Prince Consort's Own) on 4 December 1895. He transferred to the regular army as a second lieutenant in the 1st Battalion on 18 October 1899, as the battalion was sent to South Africa to serve in the Second Boer War. They were part of the force sent to relieve Ladysmith, and as such he took part in the battles of Colenso (December 1899), Vaal Krantz and the Tugela Heights (February 1900). He was promoted to lieutenant on 1 August 1900, and served in Natal and in the Transvaal, staying in South Africa throughout the hostilities, which ended with the Peace of Vereeniging on 31 May 1902.
