Sir Frederick Rogers, 5th Baronet
Sir Frederick Leman Rogers, 5th Baronet (1746–1797) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1780 and 1797. Early life Rogers was the eldest son of Sir Frederick Rogers, 4th Baronet, of Blachford and his first wife Grace Cooper, daughter of Nathaniel Cooper-Leman of Norwich and Plymouth, clerk to the Victualling Board, and was born on 23 July 1746. His father was commissioner of the dockyard. Rogers married Jane Lillicrap, daughter of John Lillicrap, a warrant officer at Gibraltar, at Gretna Green on 21 December 1769. They were also married formally at Plymouth St. Maurice, Devon on 27 June 1770. Rogers was Mayor of Plymouth for 1774–5. He succeeded his father in the baronetcy on 7 June 1777. He also became Gentleman of the Privy Chamber and recorder of Plymouth in 1777. The House of Commons is the name for the elected lower house of the bicameral parliaments of the United Kingdom and Canada. In both of these countries, the Commons holds much more legislative power than the nominally upper house of parliament. The leader of the majority party in the House of Commons by convention becomes the prime minister. Other parliaments have also had a lower house called a "House of Commons". Robert Fanshawe (Royal Navy Officer)
Robert Fanshawe (4 January 1740 – 4 February 1823) was a British officer of the Royal Navy and a Member of Parliament. Family and early life Robert Fanshawe was born in British America on 4 January 1740, the second son of Rear-Admiral Charles Fanshawe and Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of Sir John Rogers, 2nd Baronet. Robert Fanshawe was a member of the Parsloes branch of the Fanshawe family, being a descendant of William Fanshawe, an M.P. that lived during the early 17th century. He joined the navy in 1753, serving as a midshipman aboard the 50-gun . He went to the East Indies during the Seven Years' War with the squadron commanded by Vice-Admiral Charles Watson. Fanshawe saw action at the capture of the fortress of Geriah, the recapture of Calcutta, and the Battle of Chandannagar in 1757. Francis Glanville
Major General Francis Robert Glanville (1827–1910) was a senior British Army officer. Biography A descendant of Sir John Glanville MP (1542–1600), and Sir John Glanville MP (1586–1661), the Speaker of the House of Commons, and the grandson of Rt. Hon. Reginald Pole-Carew MP (1753–1835), Francis Glanville was born at Hexworthy House in Lawhitton, Cornwall, on 19 March 1827, and educated at Bedford School. He received his first commission in the Royal Artillery as a Second Lieutenant on 19 December 1844, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 2 April 1846. He was promoted to the rank of colonel on 29 December 1872, and retired from the Royal Artillery as a Major General on 14 July 1877. On Sept 3, 1860, whilst stationed in Gibraltar, Glanville married Dona Maria Concepcion Guadalupe, the daughter of Don Francis Carreras, with whom he had seven sons and five daughters. Sir William Elford, 1st Baronet (August 1749 – 30 November 1837) was an English banker, politician, and amateur artist. Background William Elford of Bickham, Buckland Monachorum, Devon, was the elder son of the Reverend Lancelot Elford, of Bickham, and Grace, daughter of Alexander Wills of Kingsbridge, Devonshire. His family was one of the oldest in the west of England. Career Elford was a partner in the banking firm at Plymouth of Elford, Tingcombe, & Clerk, and was connected in many capacities with the same town. He was Recorder of Plymouth from 1797 to February 1833 and was afterwards Recorder for Totnes from 1832 to 1834. He was elected MP for Plymouth from 1796 to 1806, when he was defeated, bringing an unsuccessful petition against his antagonist, Sir C. M. Pole, Bart. He also represented Westbury for some time. Admiral Alan Gardner, 1st Baron Gardner (12 February 1742 – 1 January 1809), was a British Royal Navy officer and peer of the realm. He was regarded by some as one of the Georgian era's most dashing frigate captains and, ultimately, a respected senior admiral. Naval career Gardner joined the Royal Navy in 1755.
