Sir Francis Blundell, 1st Baronet
Sir Francis Blundell, 1st Baronet (4 September 1579 – 26 April 1625) was an English-born lawyer, politician and administrator in Ireland. Biography Blundell was the second son of a yeoman, John Blundell, and Catherine Budoxshyde. He was educated in law at Broadgates Hall until 1596 and then Christ Church, Oxford, graduating in 1603. Thanks to a familial connection to Richard Cooke, he was appointed Surveyor General of Ireland on 18 February 1609. Between 1613 and 1615 he was the Member of Parliament for Lifford in the Irish House of Commons. Blundell was a remembrancer for Irish affairs from 1617 to 1622, acting as intermediary between James VI and I and his government in Ireland. During this period, Blundell was knighted on 30 January 1618 and on 13 October 1620 he was created a baronet, of Edenderry in the Baronetage of Ireland. Thomas Wentworth (Recorder Of Oxford)
Thomas Wentworth (c. 1568by September 1627) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1604 and 1626. He was a vocal if imprudent defender of the rights of the House of Commons. Wentworth was the third son of Peter Wentworth of Lillingstone Lovell in Oxfordshire, a prominent Puritan leader in Parliament during the reign of Elizabeth I. He was educated at University College, Oxford and became a member of Lincoln's Inn where he was called to the bar in 1594. Wentworth was elected Member of Parliament MP for Oxford in 1604. In Parliament he was an ardent and sometimes violent opponent of the Crown and of the abuse of royal prerogatives. He opposed the projected union of England and Scotland when it was discussed in 1607. He was appointed Recorder of Oxford in 1607 and held the post until 1623. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown. Blundell Baronets
Viscount Blundell was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1720 for Sir Montague Blundell, 4th Baronet, Member of Parliament for Haslemere between 1715 and 1722. He was made Baron Blundell, of Edenderry in the King's County, at the same time, also in the Peerage of Ireland. He had no surviving male issue and the titles became extinct on his death in 1756. The Blundell Baronetcy was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 13 October 1620 for Sir Francis Blundell, Vice-Treasurer and Receiver-General of Ireland. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baronet. He represented both Dingle and Philipstown in the Irish House of Commons. His son, the third Baronet, sat in the Irish Parliament as the representative for King's County. Sir Jerome Alexander (c.1585–1670) was an English-born barrister, judge and politician, who spent much of his career in Ireland (after he had been professionally ruined in England), and became a substantial Irish landowner. He was a noted benefactor of Trinity College Dublin. Francis Annesley, 1st Viscount Valentia, (1 February – 22 November 1660) was an English statesman during the colonisation of Ireland in the seventeenth century. He was a Member of Parliament for both the English and Irish houses, was elevated to the Irish peerage as Baron Mountnorris, and later gain the additional title Viscount Valentia. He is best remembered for his clash with the Lord Lieutenant, Thomas Wentworth, who in order to render Annesley powerless had him sentenced to death on a spurious charge of mutiny, although it was clearly understood that the sentence would not be carried out.
