Sir David James Vernon Wills, 5th Baronet (born 1955) is the 5th Baronet of Blagdon, a title created in 1923 for the president of the Imperial Tobacco Company. Wills is the son of Sir John Vernon Wills, 4th Bt. and Diana Baker. He married Paula Holmes in July 1999. Wills succeeded as the ''5th Baronet Wills, of Blagdon, co. Somerset .K., 1923' on his father's death on 26 August 1998. Wills owns the 2,000 acre Coombe Lodge Estate in Blagdon Blagdon is a village and civil parish in the ceremonial county of Somerset, within the unitary authority of North Somerset, in England. It is located in the Mendip Hills, a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wills Baronets
There have been four baronetcies created for members of the Wills family, owners of W. D. & H. O. Wills and major shareholders and directors of the Imperial Tobacco Company. All four creations were in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. The Wills Baronetcy, of Blagdon in the County of Somerset, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 12 August 1893 for William Henry Wills, the first chairman of the Imperial Tobacco Company, formed by the merger of W.D. & H.O. Wills (founded in Bristol by his grandfather Henry Overton Wills I (1761–1826)) with 12 other smaller UK tobacco manufacturers. He was elevated to the peerage in 1906 as Baron Winterstoke, but died without issue in 1911, when the baronetcy and the barony became extinct. Blagdon
Blagdon is a village and civil parish in the ceremonial county of Somerset, within the unitary authority of North Somerset, in England. It is located in the Mendip Hills, a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. According to the 2011 census it has a population of 1,116. The village is about east of Weston-super-Mare on the A368 between Churchill and Compton Martin. History The village was called ''Blachedon'' in the 1086 Domesday Book and the name comes from the Old English ''bloec'' and ''dun'' meaning 'the black or bleak down'. Romans There was a Roman presence in Blagdon from about 49 AD until the end of the Roman occupation of Britain. Several Roman coins and fragments of Roman pottery have been found in the village. There were lead and silver workings in Charterhouse, about a mile and a half uphill to the south, so it is likely that the wealthier supervisors had their houses away from the toxic smoke in the village. The Anchor Society CIO is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in Bristol, England which supports older people in need in the Bristol and Bath region (BS, BA and GL Postcodes). Its work primarily centres around grants to individuals, housing and other projects which benefit older people. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. The title of baronet is mentioned as early as the 14th century, however in its current usage was created by James I of England in 1611 as a means of raising funds for the crown.
