Sir Colman O'Loghlen, 2nd Baronet
Sir Colman Michael O'Loghlen, 2nd Baronet (pronounced and sometimes spelt O'Lochlen) (20 September 1819 – 22 July 1877) was an Irish baronet and politician. O'Loghlen was born in County Clare, Ireland, eldest son of the distinguished Irish judge Sir Michael O'Loghlen, 1st Baronet and his wife Bidelia Kelly. He was educated by the Jesuits at Clongowes Wood College, Co Kildare, attending from 1831 to 1833. He graduated from Dublin University in 1840 and was called to the Irish Bar later that year. He succeeded to his baronetcy in 1842 on the death of his father, and in 1863 was elected to the British House of Commons for Clare (UK Parliament constituency), County Clare, holding the seat until his death. From 1868 until 1870 he also held the office of Judge Advocate General (United Kingdom), Judge Advocate General, which at the time was a political office. Serjeants-at-law (Ireland)
A Serjeant-at-Law (SL), commonly known simply as a Serjeant, was a member of an order of barristers at the English and Irish Bar. The position of Serjeant-at-Law (''servientes ad legem''), or Sergeant-Counter, was centuries old; there are writs dating to 1300 which identify them as descended from figures in France before the Norman Conquest, thus the Serjeants are said to be the oldest formally created order in England. The order rose during the 16th century as a small, elite group of lawyers who took much of the work in the central common law courts. With the creation of Queen's Counsel (or "Queen's Counsel Extraordinary") during the reign of Elizabeth I, the order gradually began to decline, with each monarch opting to create more King's or Queen's Counsel. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown.
