Sir Christopher Conyers, 2nd Baronet (1621–1693), was one of the Conyers baronets and Lord Lieutenant of Durham. Simon Du Bois or Dubois (baptized 26 July 1632, Antwerp – buried 26 May 1706, London) Dubois, Simon at the RKD), was a portrait painter, of Flemish or Dutch origin, active in England from 1685 until his death. Life Du Bois was the youngest son of Hendrick Du Bois, and his wife Helena Leonora Sieveri. Born at Antwerp, the family lived in Rotterdam by 1643, where Hendrick was described as a painter and dealer in works of art and where he died in 1647. From 1646 to 1653 Dubois lived in Haarlem, where he was a pupil of Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem, Van Berchem and Philips Wouwermans, Wouwermans, and took to painting horses and cattle pictures. In 1653 he traveled with his 13-year older brother Eduard (1619-1696). Here Simon began his career as a painter of small battle-pieces in the Italian fashion. Conyers Baronets
The baronetcy of Conyers of Horden was created in the Baronetage of England on 14 July 1628 for John Conyers of Horden, County Durham. Early history Between 1099 and 1133 the then Bishop of Durham, Ralph Flambard, granted lands at Sockburn, in County Durham and Hutton, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, to a Roger de Conyers. By the end of the 12th century the lands were divided between two branches of the Conyers family. The elder branch resided at Hutton Conyers, which passed to the Mallory family in 1347 after a Conyers daughter married a Mallory. The other branch was well established at Sockburn. Sockburn Hall was the family seat. The last male Conyers at Sockburn died in 1635, and his granddaughter sold the manor of Sockburn. Richard Lumley, 1st Viscount Lumley
Richard Lumley, 1st Viscount Lumley (7 April 1589 – 12 March 1663) was an English royalist and military commander. He was the grandfather of Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough. Richard Lumley was baptized at Chester-le-Street, County Durham, 7 July 1589, the son of Roger Lumley and Anne (''née'' Kurtswich), and grandson of Anthony Lumley. He was the great grandson of Richard Lumley, 3rd Baron Lumley who was summoned to Parliament in 1509. (The 3rd Baron's father, Thomas, predeceased the 3rd Baron's grandfather, George the 2nd Baron). He was a first cousin of John Lumley, 1st Baron Lumley. He was a loyalist to the crown during the time of the English Civil Wars. He made the family seat, Lumley Castle, into a garrison. He was made principal commander under Prince Rupert, and marched into the west of England and fought at the Siege of Bristol where he remained until Rupert surrendered it in 1645. Earl of Traquair (pronounced "Tra-''quare''") was a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1633 for John Stewart, 1st Earl of Traquair, John Stewart, Lord Stewart of Traquair. The family seat was Traquair House. Stewart had been created Lord Stewart of Traquair in 1628, and was made Lord Linton and Caberston at the same time as he was given the earldom in 1633.
