Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 3rd Baronet
Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 3rd Baronet (11 December 1629 – 31 July 1681) of Clearwell, Gloucestershire was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1656 and 1679. Throckmorton was the son of Sir Baynham Throckmorton, 2nd Baronet (c. 1606–64) and his wife Margaret Hopton, daughter of Robert Hopton. In 1656, Throckmorton was elected Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire in the Second Protectorate Parliament. Throckmorton was knighted on 28 May 1660. In June 1660 he was elected MP for Wotton Basset in a by-election to the Convention Parliament. Also in 1660, he was appointed Deputy Constable of St Briavel's, Deputy Warden of the Forest of Dean, Keeper of the Gawle in Dean Forest and Riding Forester and aleconner in Dean Forest. In 1664 succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father and was elected MP for Gloucestershire in the Cavalier Parliament in succession to his father. He sat until 1679. Sir Christopher Guise, 1st Baronet
Sir Christopher Guise, 1st Baronet (died 1670), of Elmore Court in Gloucestershire, England, was a Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire in 1654. Origins Guise was the son of William Guise of Elmore by his wife Cecilia Dennis, a daughter of John Dennis of Pucklechurch in Gloucestershire. Career In 1654 Guise was elected a Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was created a baronet "of Elmore" on 10 July 1661. Sir Ralph Dutton, 1st Baronet
Sir Ralph Dutton (c.1645-1721), 1st Baronet, was an English landowner and politician. Life He was the younger son of the royalist Sir Ralph Dutton (1601–46) of Standish, Gloucestershire, a gentleman of the Privy Chamber extraordinary to Charles I, and Mary Duncomb, the co-heiress of a London haberdasher and granddaughter of Sir Thomas Bennett. He married Grizel, the daughter of Sir Edward Poole of Kemble, Wiltshire, about 1674. She died in 1678, having borne a daughter. In that year her husband became a baronet, for a payment of £1100. The following year he inherited Sherborne from his childless brother William. In 1679 he married Mary, heiress of Peter Barwick of London, physician to Charles II. Sir John Guise, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Guise, 2nd Baronet (c.1654 – November 1695) of Elmore Court, Gloucestershire was an English landowner and Member of Parliament. Life He was born the only son of Sir Christopher Guise, 1st Baronet of the Elmore baronets of Gloucestershire and educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1669. He then travelled in France for a while. He succeeded his father to the baronetcy and to Elmore Court in 1670. He acted as a local Justice of the Peace and as a Deputy-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire (?1674-81, 1689-death). He was Mayor of Gloucester for 1690–91 and Vice-Admiral of Gloucestershire from 1691 to his death. He was elected the Member of Parliament for Gloucestershire in February 1679, August 1679 and 1681 but defeated in the election of 1685 by the Court party candidate and forced to take refuge in the Netherlands. Sir Walter St John, 3rd Baronet
Sir Walter St John, 3rd Baronet (May 1622 – 3 July 1708), of Lydiard Tregoze, Wiltshire, and of Battersea (succeeded in 1657), was an English MP. Biography He was the sixth son of Sir John St John, 1st Baronet of Lydiate Tregoze and inherited the baronetcy on the death of his nephew Sir John St John, 2nd Baronet (c. 1637–1657), the son and heir of Oliver, the son and heir apparent of Sir John, 1st Baronet. In 1656, Sir Walter was Member of Parliament for Wiltshire (1656–1658 and 1659); for Wootton Bassett (1660–1679); and again for Wiltshire (1679–1681 and 1690–1695). He was famed for "piety and moral virtues". In 1700, Sir Walter signed a trust deed that led to the formation of a school which later became the Sir Walter St John's School of Battersea. Sir Walter died in his 87th year on 3 July 1708, and was buried on 9 July at Battersea. On his death the baronetcy passed to a grandson Henry St John who was created a viscount in 1716. John Pleydell
John Pleydell (c. 1601 – 1693) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1660 and 1689. Pleydell was the son of Sir Charles Pleydell of Midgehall, Wiltshire and Kilburn Priory, Middlesex and his first wife Katherine Bourchier, daughter of Thomas Bourchier of Barnsley, Gloucestershire. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford on 6 November 1618, aged 17 and was a student of Inner Temple in 1621. He succeeded his father in 1642. In 1660, Pleydell was elected Member of Parliament for Wootton Bassett in the Convention Parliament. John Stephens (English Politician)
John Stephens (1603 – 4 August 1679) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1645 and 1660. Stephens was the second son of Thomas Stephens of Little Sodbury, Gloucestershire and was educated at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 1620 he entered the Middle Temple, where he was called to the bar in 1628, and practised law in Elm Court. He was the brother of Edward Stephens. Stephens inherited from his father Lypiatt House in the neighbourhood of Bisley. The house was garrisoned by Parliamentary troops during the Civil War but partially set on fire during a Royalist attack under Sir Jacob Astley, who was later forced to make good the damage from his own assets. Stephens was elected Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury in the Long Parliament in 1645. In 1659 he was elected MP for Gloucestershire in the Third Protectorate Parliament.
