Sins Of The Fathers (1948 Film)
''Sins of the Fathers'' is a 1948 Canadian film about the effect of syphilis in a small Canadian town. Ben Edwards is a crusading doctor who tries to pass a public health law, against the hypocritical opposition of the leaders of the community who profit from prostitution and slums. Finally the opponents find out that they themselves have syphilis and have transmitted it to their own children. The film incorporates educational films produced by the U.S. Public Health Service. Directed by Phil Rosen, it was very successful at the box office. Phil Rosen
Philip E. Rosen (May 8, 1888 – October 22, 1951) was an American film director and cinematographer. He directed more than 140 films between 1915 and 1949. He was born in Marienburg, German Empire (now, Malbork, Poland), grew up in Machias, Maine, and died in Hollywood, California of a heart attack. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Cinematographers. Rosen was married to model and actress Joyzelle Joyner. Austin Willis
Alexander Austin Willis, (30 September 1917 – 4 April 2004) was a Canadian actor and television host. Biography Austin was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents Alexander Samuel and Emma Graham (Pushie) Willis. His older brother, J. Frank Willis, was a radio broadcaster with the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission (later the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). In 2002, Austin was made a Member of the Order of Canada. He is best known internationally for his appearance as Simmons, the man whom Auric Goldfinger beats at cards in the opening scenes of the James Bond film, '' Goldfinger''. Originally he was to have played Felix Leiter but, at the last minute, fellow Canadian Cec Linder switched roles with him. Mary Barclay
Mary Barclay (20 July 1916 – 19 February 2008) was an English film, television and theatre actress. She was best known for playing Stella Dane in the ''Crossroads'' television series, as well as her role in the 1973 film, '' A Touch of Class''. Early life Barclay was born Mary Biddulph in Williton, Somerset, England. She earned a double first from Cambridge University in Classics. She applied to the Civil Service Board, but was turned down for the position. Afterwards she moved in with the mother of Ivor Novello in London. Novello's mother taught Barclay how to play the piano and sing. In return, Barclay agreed to take out her gin bottles. She worked at the landmark HMV music store on Oxford Street in London during this time. Barclay enrolled in the Guildhall School of Music and Drama around the outbreak of the Second World War.
