''Sink with Kalifornija'' is a compilation album by Los Angeles–based hardcore punk band Youth Brigade. It was released in 1994 by the band's own label, BYO Records. It contains recordings from two of the band's earlier works; '' Sound & Fury'' (1983) and the EP ''What Price Happiness?'' (1984), as well as live tracks recorded at Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach, California in 1985. Youth Brigade (band)
Youth Brigade is an American punk rock band formed in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States, in 1980 by the brothers Mark, Adam, and Shawn Stern. The band subsequently founded BYO (Better Youth Organization). Many later punk bands cite Youth Brigade as an influence, including The Nation of Ulysses and The Briefs. Youth Brigade has released five studio albums (counting one released as The Brigade), of which the last was released in 1996. Almost each album was recorded with the original lineup of the Stern brothers (Mark, Adam and Shawn); bassist Bob Gnarly replaced Adam in 1985 during the recording of '' The Dividing Line'', which was released as The Brigade. Better Youth Organization Records (BYO) is a Los Angeles, California based independent punk rock record label created by Shawn and Mark Stern, two of the three brothers of the California punk rock band Youth Brigade (the third being Adam Stern who plays bass but does not run BYO). Aim and history BYO aims to promote punk and other alternative youth cultures in a positive light. ''Happy Hour'' is a studio album by the Los Angeles–based hardcore punk band Youth Brigade (band), Youth Brigade, released in 1994. It was the band's first full-length studio album since their second album ''Sound & Fury (1983 album), Sound & Fury'', released 11 years earlier. However, in the 11 years they had released two EPs, as well as The Dividing Line (Youth Brigade album), one album under the name The Brigade, when bassist/vocalist Adam Stern was on hiatus from the band for six years, from 1985 to 1991. ''Sound & Fury'' is the second studio album released by Los Angeles-based hardcore punk band Youth Brigade. Released in 1983, it followed a 1982 album of the same name. The album was released on CD as the first half of the 1994 compilation, ''Sink With Kalifornija''. Origins and recording In July 1982, Youth Brigade recorded their debut album entitled Sound & Fury Mixed by Ira Malek. However, during the ''Someone Got Their Head Kicked In'' tour with Social Distortion (as chronicled in the documentary '' Another State of Mind'') in the summer of 1982, which marked their first national tour, Youth Brigade realized that they were disappointed with the album and stopped the pressing at only 800 copies. ''Jackass'' is an American reality comedy television series created by Jeff Tremaine, Spike Jonze, and Johnny Knoxville. It originally aired for three short seasons on MTV between October 2000 and August 2001, with reruns extending into 2002. The show featured a cast of nine carrying out stunts and pranks on each other or the public. Duke Of Earl
"Duke of Earl" is a 1962 US number-one song, originally recorded by Gene Chandler. It is the best known of Chandler's songs, and he subsequently dubbed himself "The Duke of Earl". The song was penned by Chandler, Bernice Williams, and Earl Edwards. This song was a 2002 inductee into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It has also been selected by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. Original version by Gene Chandler The song originated from warm-up exercises by the Dukays, a vocal group that included Chandler (under his original name, Eugene Dixon) and Earl Edwards and that had already had some success on the R&B chart. The group would regularly warm up by singing "Do do do do..." in different keys. Gene Chandler
Gene Chandler (born Eugene Drake Dixon; July 6, 1937) is an American singer, songwriter, music producer, and record-label executive. Chandler is nicknamed "the Duke of Earl" or, simply, "the Duke." He is best known for his most successful songs, "Duke of Earl" and " Groovy Situation", and his association with the Dukays, the Impressions, and Curtis Mayfield. Chandler is a Grammy Hall of Fame inductee and a recipient of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation's Pioneer Award. He is one of the few singers to achieve chart success spanning the doo-wop, rhythm and blues, soul and disco musical eras, with some top-40 pop and R&B chart hits between 1961 and 1986. Chandler was inducted as a performer into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame on August 24, 2014.
