Sinhala Literature
Sri Lankan literature is the literary tradition of Sri Lanka. The largest part of Sri Lankan literature was written in the Sinhala language, but there is a considerable number of works in other languages used in Sri Lanka over the millennia (including Pāli, Tamil, and English). However, the languages used in ancient times were very different from the language used in Sri Lanka now. Up to the present, short stories are a very important part of Sri Lankan literature; the output of Sinhalese short story writers has elicited a greater measure of critical analysis. Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka (, ; si, ශ්‍රී ලංකා, Śrī Laṅkā, translit-std=ISO (); ta, இலங்கை, Ilaṅkai, translit-std=ISO ()), formerly known as Ceylon and officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia. Ajith Thilakasena (born 7 October 1933) is a Sinhala writer who deviated from the conventional use of language, creating his own version suitable for the modern age. Piyaseeli Wijegunasinghe
Piyaseeli Wijegunasingha (February 20, 1943 – September 2, 2010) was a Sri Lankan literary critic, Trotskyist and Marxist scholar, and a member of Sri Lanka's Socialist Equality Party from 1968 until her death. She worked as a lecturer for 44 yearsFernando, Mano. ''Piyaseeli Wijegunasingha Samachara'' (no English translation available). Nalin De Silva
Thakurartha Devadithya Guardiyawasam Lindamulage Nalin Kumara de Silva ( Sinhala: නලින් ද සිල්වා; born 20 October 1944) is a Sri Lankan philosopher and a political analyst. He is the current Sri Lankan ambassador in Myanmar. He was a professor in the department of mathematics, a member of University Grant Commission and the dean of the faculty of science at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. De Silva has openly stated that the so-called 'objective scientific method' is a lie. In June 2011 he stated that information regarding the presence of arsenic in water claiming that the cause of Rajarata chronic kidney disease had been given to him by the god Natha. Wimalaratne Kumaragama
Wimalaratne Kumaragama (January 18, 1919 – December 30, 1962) was a prominent Sri Lankan poet, of the Colombo era. A Divisional Revenue Officer (DRO) by profession, his poems were centred around Wanni and its people. They evoke the life of the village and its characters, surroundings, environment, animals and experiences. Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera
Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera (1408 – 1491) was a Buddhist monk and an eminent scholar, who lived in the 15th century in Sri Lanka. He was a polyglot who was given the title "''Shad Bhasha Parameshwara''" due to his mastery in six oriental languages which prevailed in the Indian subcontinent. Sangharaja Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thera was also a distinguished author, veteran astrologer and a proficient ayurvedic physician. Saman Tilakasiri
Saman Tilakasiri (11 August 1928 – 5 January 2000) was a Sri Lankan poet, journalist and an award-winning author. He was a Senior Editor with "Lankadeepa" at Times of Ceylon and the Chief Editor of "Rasavahini" magazine. His published work include research on Sinhala literature, Sinhala grammar lessons, and a number of popular Sinhala books for children and youngsters, several of which won national awards, presidential award and UNICEF Book Competition for "Year of the Children 1979". Palansuriya Mohottalalage Dingiri Mahaththaya ( si, පලන්සුරිය මොහොට්ටාලලාගේ ඩිංගිරි මහත්තයා, known as Sagara Palansuriya ( si, සාගර පලන්සූරිය) in later life, was a Sri Lankan poet, teacher and Member of Parliament. Kala Suri Parakrama Kodituwakku, is a notable Sinhala poet. After the revival and experimentations of Sinhala poetry during the 1950s and 1960s, the 1970s were marked by the rise of several young poets including Parakrama Kodituwakku, Monica Ruwanpathirana and Rathna Sri Wijesinghe. Meemana Premathilake
Karunaratne Premathilake ( si, මීමන ප්‍රේමතිලක; 20 September 1918 – 12 July 1965), popularly known as Meemana Premathilake was a prominent Sri Lankan poet, journalist and a writer. One of the most respected poets in Colombo era, Premathilake is notable as the founding editor of Sri Lanka's premier artistic newspaper 'Sarasaviya'. Personal life Premathilake was born on 20 September 1918 in Meemana village in Horana, Sri Lanka.
