Singapore National Day Parade, 2018
The Singapore National Day Parade 2018, also known as NDP 2018, was a national parade and ceremony that was held on 9 August 2018 in commemoration of Singapore's 53rd year of independence. It located at The Float at Marina Bay. It is the first National Day Parade for President Halimah Yacob. The NDP song is based on the 1987 NDP song, We Are Singapore, with an update by local singer Charlie Lim. It is also the 3rd time in history that an NDP song is reused the second time, following This is Home Truly (1998) and We Will Get There (2002) that were reused respectively in 2004 and 2014. The Float At Marina Bay
The Float at Marina Bay, stylised as The Float@Marina Bay and also known as the Marina Bay Floating Platform, is a multi-purpose outdoor venue at the Downtown Core area of Marina Bay, Singapore. The venue consists of a steel platform in the Marina Reservoir, and a 27,000-seat grandstand along the shore. The floating platform can bear up to 1,070 tonnes, equivalent to the total weight of 9,000 people, 200 tonnes of stage props and three 30-tonne military vehicles. The Float was built in 2007 as an interim venue for events usually held at the National Stadium in Kallang while it was being rebuilt as part of the Singapore Sports Hub project—including sporting events (such as football), concerts, arts and cultural performances, and festivities such as the National Day Parade (NDP). Singapore National Day Parade
The National Day Parade (NDP) is an annual parade held in Singapore to commemorate its independence. Held annually on 9 August, it is the main public celebration of National Day, consists of a parade incorporating contingents of the Singapore Armed Forces, Ministry of Home Affairs, local institutions and community groups, followed by a cultural presentation culminating with a fireworks display. First held on 9 August 1966 to mark the one-year anniversary of the Proclamation of Singapore, it has been held annually since then. The parade had historically been held at the Padang, but were occasionally held at the former National Stadium, and in a "decentralised" format across the country to encourage wider public participation. Halimah Yacob
Halimah Yacob (Jawi script: ; born 23 August 1954) is a Singaporean politician and former lawyer who has been serving as the eighth president of Singapore since 2017. Prior to her presidency, she was the country's Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, parliament speaker. She is also the first female president in Singapore's history. Charlie Lim
Charles Lim, better known as Charlie Lim, is a Singaporean singer-songwriter, musician, producer and artist. Personal life Lim was exposed to music from a young age, especially since his mother taught the piano. He started singing and playing the piano in church and in school bands, learning how to play by ear. He was educated at Victoria School where he was with the school choir which came in second at the Singapore Youth Festival. At 14, he moved to Melbourne, Australia and wanted to pursue medicine or journalism, but "music got the better of him". In 2005, he topped the state of Victoria for music performance and was selected by VCE's Season of Excellence to perform at Melbourne's Hamer Hall. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) is the naval service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) responsible for defending the country against any sea-borne threats, and the protection of its sea lines of communications, that would compromise Singapore as a global trading hub. The RSN traces its origins to the Royal Navy when Singapore was still a Crown colony of the British Empire. The Singapore Army is the land service branch of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). The largest of the four branches of the SAF, the Singapore Army traces its origins to the 1st Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment (1 SIR), which was formed in 1957, when Singapore was still under British colonial rule. Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team
The Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team (SAFPT), also known as the Red Lions is best known for its free-fall displays at the annual Singapore National Day Parade, National Day Parade held in Singapore since its first appearance in 1989 as a formalised team, although members of the Singapore Commandos Formation had put on sporadic displays since the 1970s. Primarily responsible for organising display jumps and representing the Singapore Armed Forces in competitions, the team adopted the name "Red Lions" in 1996 as part of its identity. In 2014, Third Warrant Officer Shirley Ng became the first female Red Lion parachutist to jump at the National Day Parade in Singapore. Shawn Huang Wei Zhong
Shawn Huang Wei Zhong ( zh, s=黄伟中, p=Huáng Wěizhōng; born 1982) is a Singaporean politician. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Jurong Spring division of Jurong GRC since 2020. Before entering politics, he is an F-16 fighter pilot in the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) between 2000 and 2018.
