The Singapore Baptist Convention was established on 28 December 1974. Malaysia-Singapore Baptist Convention
The Malaysia Baptist Convention is a Baptist Christian denomination in Malaysia. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is in Petaling Jaya. History The Malaysia Baptist Convention has its origins in a mission of Baptist immigrants from Swatow, China in 1905. The first Baptist church in Alor Setar, Kedah has been established in 1937. Although Baptist work in Malaysia was initiated by Asians, missionaries from the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention played an important role in helping the new churches establish Baptist distinctives in teaching, polity and ministry. The Asia Pacific Baptist Federation (APBF) is a regional organization of the Baptist World Alliance, a worldwide fellowship of churches that subscribe to Baptist distinctives. The Baptist World Alliance (BWA) is the largest international Baptist organization with an estimated 51 million people in 2022 with 246 member bodies in 128 countries and territories. A voluntary association of Baptist churches, the BWA accounts for about half the Baptists in the world. It is the 8th largest Christian communion. Protestantism In Singapore
Christians in Singapore constitute 18.9% of the country's population. In 2020, about 37.1% of the country's Christians identified as Catholic and 62.9% as 'Other Christians' (chiefly Protestants). Christianity was introduced to Singapore by Anglicans among the first British settlers to arrive shortly after the founding of modern Singapore by Stamford Raffles. The percentage of Christians in Singapore increased from 12.7% in 1990 to 14.6% in 2000. Whilst the 2015 census showed the Christian population increased again, to 18.8%. Christianity has flourished in post-colonial Singapore, and a growing number of Singaporeans are converting to Christianity, Christian converts tend to come from the young, well-educated, higher-income brackets, and English-speaking Chinese generation.
