Sing (Travis Song)
"Sing" is a song by Scottish rock band Travis from their third studio album, ''The Invisible Band'' (2001). The song was written in 1999 by frontman Fran Healy, produced by Nigel Godrich and recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles. It was released as the album's lead single in the United States on 23 April 2001. Healy originally titled the melody "Swing" but eventually changed the title to "Sing", making it about working past the troubles of a relationship by not being afraid to let oneself go and sing in front of a loved one. The song is noted for its prominent use of the banjo, played by lead guitarist Andy Dunlop, and contains a string arrangement performed by Millennia Strings. "Sing" received acclaim from contemporary music critics, who often praised its writing and production. Travis (band)
Travis are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1990, composed of Fran Healy (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Dougie Payne (bass guitar, backing vocals), Andy Dunlop (lead guitar, banjo, backing vocals) and Neil Primrose (drums, percussion). The band's name comes from the character Travis Henderson (played by Harry Dean Stanton) from the film ''Paris, Texas'' (1984). The band released their debut album, '' Good Feeling'' (1997), to moderate success where it debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and was later awarded a silver certification from the BPI in January 2000. "Turn" is the fourth single from Scottish rock band Travis's second studio album, ''The Man Who'' (1999). The single peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart and reached the top 40 in Ireland and New Zealand. Music video Two music videos were shot for the single. The first video, included on the group's ''Singles'' DVD, features Fran Healy engaged in a push-up contest. This video was filmed in Hackney on the Nightingale Estate. The estate has since been demolished. British actress Julie Smith as well as British actor Stephen Graham were featured in the video. The second featured a staged performance by the band. The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. ''Top of the Pops'' (''TOTP'') is a British Record chart, music chart television programme, made by the BBC and originally broadcast weekly between 1January 1964 and 30 July 2006. The programme was the world's longest-running weekly music show. For most of its history, it was broadcast on Thursday evenings on BBC One. Each show consisted of performances of some of the week's best-selling popular music records, usually excluding any tracks moving down the chart, including a rundown of that week's singles chart.
