''Since'' is the third studio album by Richard Buckner. It was released by MCA records in 1998. Background and writing "Jewelbomb" and "Boys the Night Will Bury You" were written during the composition of ''Devotion + Doubt''. Early vocal/acoustic recordings of these two songs appear in a collection of 1996 demos (released by Overcoat Records in 2000 as a self-titled album). Reception In a 4-star AllMusic review, Michael Gallucci wrote, "Richard Buckner's follow-up to his 1997 divorce odyssey ''Devotion + Doubt'' is a more upbeat affair, with questions of faith and being tossed into the electric mix. Moving from contemplative singer-songwriter treks ('Once') to blurry guitar rave-ups ('Believer')... ''Devotion + Doubt'' (sometimes formatted as ''Devotion+Doubt'') is the second studio album by Richard Buckner, and his first album released on a major label. It was released on March 11, 1997 by MCA Records. Buckner recorded the album shortly after the end of his first marriage. Critical reception Mark Deming of AllMusic wrote that it was "a significantly more ambitious and accomplished effort than uckner's 1994 debut album''Bloomed''" and "a creative left turn that more than lived up to the promise of 'Bloomed''. Trouser Press' Erik Hage wrote that ''Devotion + Doubt'' was "...a gut-wrenching song cycle that deserves a place in the divorce-album hall-of-fame alongside Dylan's ''Blood on the Tracks''". Richard Buckner is an American singer-songwriter born in California, United States. After living in Edmonton, Alberta, for a number of years, he relocated to Brooklyn, New York. Background Buckner's solo career began with ''Bloomed'' (1994), a lyrics, lyrically dense suite of songs recorded in Lubbock, Texas, Lubbock, Texas, and produced by Lloyd Maines. It was released when Buckner was the frontman of the band The Doubters, which was not achieving very much success at the time. In January 1996, while living in San Francisco, he recorded an album's worth of acoustic songs, all of which reappeared in more fully realized forms on his second and third albums. The CD was self-produced and self-released, and was sold exclusively at his early shows. ''Trouser Press'' was a rock and roll magazine started in New York in 1974 as a mimeographed fanzine by editor/publisher Ira Robbins, fellow fan of the Who Dave Schulps and Karen Rose under the name "Trans-Oceanic Trouser Press" (a reference to a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band and an acronymic play on the British TV show ''Top of the Pops)''.
