Sinap is a neighbourhood in the municipality and district of Erdemli, Mersin Province, Turkey. Its population is 179 (2022). The village is situated in the peneplane area to the north of Çukurova (Cilicia) plains. The castle ruin ''Sinap Kalesi'' proves that the area around Sinap was inhabited during ancient and early medieval times. The later history of the village is more or less intermingled with that of Karayakup village. Up to 1989 Sinap was a part of Karayakup. The main economic activity is farming. Erdemli
Erdemli is a town and district of Mersin Province in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, west of the city of Mersin. Geography Erdemli is located between the districts of Mezitli (to the east) and Silifke (to the west). In the north, Erdemli is bordered by Karaman Province and in the south by the Mediterranean Sea. The district extends from the Mediterranean coastal plain, the largest agricultural area in Mersin Province, to high in the Taurus Mountains where there is forest, and then a large area (half the land area of the district) is high mountain above the treeline. Erdemli is a quiet rural district where the people are conservative, and is traditionally a stronghold of Turkish nationalist politicians; however some departments of Mersin University are opening branches here which will surely have an effect on the cultural and social life of Erdemli in the future. Mersin Province ( tr, ), formerly İçel Province ( tr, ), is a province in southern Turkey, on the Mediterranean coast between Antalya and Adana. Çukurova () or the Cilician Plain (''Cilicia Pedias'' in antiquity), is a large fertile plain in the Cilicia region of southern Turkey.
