''Sin Town'' is a 1942 American Western film directed by Ray Enright and starring Constance Bennett, Broderick Crawford and Patric Knowles.Kellow p.250 It is set during the Texas Oil Boom of the early 20th century. Production According to the ''New York Times'' on July 31, 1942, Universal has signed Constance Bennett to play the feminine lead in ''Sin Town'', a story of an oil-boom community, and the movie originally was planned for Marlene Dietrich. Ray Enright
Ray Enright (March 25, 1896 – April 3, 1965) was an American film director. He directed 73 films between 1927–53, many of them for Warner Bros. He oversaw comedy films like Joe E. Brown vehicles, five of the six informal pairings of Joan Blondell and Glenda Farrell, and later directed a number of Westerns, many featuring Randolph Scott. Enright was born in Anderson, Indiana, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Leo Carrillo
Leopoldo Antonio Carrillo (; August 6, 1880 – September 10, 1961), known professionally as Leo Carrillo, was an American actor, vaudevillian, political cartoonist, and conservationist. He was best known for playing Pancho in the television series '' The Cisco Kid'' (1950–1956) and in several films. Biography Family roots Leo Carrillo was a member of the Carrillo family of California, a prominent Californio family, and traced his ancestry through California, Mexico, and Spain to the year 1260. Jack Mulhall
John Joseph Francis Mulhall (October 7, 1887 – June 1, 1979) was an American film actor beginning in the silent film era who successfully transitioned to sound films, appearing in over 430 films in a career spanning 50 years. Early years Mulhall was born in Wappingers Falls, New York. He was one of six children born to an Irish father and a Scottish mother. He began helping with carnival acts when he was 14 years old. Career Before acting in films, Mulhall worked in legitimate theater, musical comedy, and vaudeville. He also worked as a model for magazine illustrators. His first film appearance (other than as an extra) was in '' The Fugitive'' (1910). Bryant Washburn
Franklin Bryant Washburn III (April 28, 1889 – April 30, 1963) was an American film actor who appeared in more than 370 films between 1911 and 1947. Washburn's parents were Franklin Bryant Washburn II and Metha Catherine Johnson Washburn. He attended Lake View High School in Chicago. Washburn's early acting experience came in stock theater. He debuted in film in 1911 with Essanay Studios. He quickly became a comedy star after appearing in films such as ''Skinner's Baby'' and ''Skinner's Dress Suit'' in 1917. His second marriage was to actress Virginia Vance. They had a child together. He died from a heart attack in Hollywood. His interment was located in Culver City, California's Holy Cross Cemetery. His son, Bryant Washburn, Jr. (1915–1960), was also an actor, a major in the US Air Force Reserve, served during World War II and Korea, and predeceased him. Hobart Van Zandt Bosworth (August 11, 1867 – December 30, 1943) was an American film actor, director, writer, and producer. Early life Bosworth was born on August 11, 1867, in Marietta, Ohio. His father was a sea captain in the Civil War. When Bosworth was 12 years old, he ran away to sea. In June 1885, he was on shore leave in San Francisco when an opportunity arose for him to join McKee Rankin's stage company. That led to a theatrical career for him. Career Thinking he would like to become a landscape painter, a friend suggested that he work as a stage manager to raise the money to study art. Acting on his friend's advice, Bosworth obtained a job with McKee Rankin as a stage manager at the California Theatre in San Francisco. Earning some money, he undertook the study of painting. Charles Wagenheim
Charles Wagenheim (February 21, 1896 – March 6, 1979) was an American actor who appeared in over 250 films. On television, Wagenheim appeared in an episode of ''Barnaby Jones'' titled "The Murdering Class", portraying a cemetery groundskeeper (named Charles Waggenheim). Wagenheim died on March 6, 1979, from blunt force trauma caused by his caregiver, Stephanie Boone. Wagenheim had thought that Miss Boone had been stealing from him and forging checks. When he confronted her in his apartment over this, an argument ensued and she struck him on the head, causing his death. An autopsy found that Wagenheim had died by way of blunt force trauma. Boone was charged with the murder of Wagenheim and pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. She was sentenced to serve eight years for his death.
