Sin Kek Tong
Sin Kek Tong ( zh, s=沈克栋, p=Shěn Kèdòng; died 27 February 2017) was a Singaporean politician. Originally a member of the opposition Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), Sin left the SDP in 1994 with a breakaway faction of SDP members who supported SDP founder Chiam See Tong in an internal conflict against Chee Soon Juan and other SDP leaders. Sin and Chiam's supporters then started the Singapore People's Party (SPP), with Sin standing in as secretary-general until Chiam officially joined the SPP in 1996. Throughout his political career, Sin had contested in six general elections from 1988 to 2011, but had never won any of them. The Singapore People's Party (abbreviation: SPP) is a political party in Singapore. History SPP was founded on 21 November 1994 by Sin Kek Tong, who led a pro-Chiam See Tong faction out of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP). Over two years, Sin stood as the pro-tem leader until Chiam joined the party and assumed leadership in December 1996, at the time the Parliament was dissolved ahead of the 1997 general election. Chiam then became the party's first Member of Parliament (MP) when he won the constituency of Potong Pasir at the election, where he also did under the SDP banner. Ling How Doong
Ling How Doong (; 1935/1936 – 30 April 2021) was a Singaporean politician and lawyer who served as the Parliament of Singapore, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Gombak Single Member Constituency, Bukit Gombak SMC between 1991 and 1996. Education Ling was educated at Anglo-Chinese School and Nan Hua High School. He was Call to the Bar, called to the Bar at the Middle Temple in London in 1972 to practice as a lawyer. Amy Khor Lean Suan ( zh, s=许连碹, p=Xǔ Liánxuàn; born 1958) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Senior Minister of State for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment since 2020. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Hong Kah North SMC since 2011. Prior to entering politics, Khor was a valuer at the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS), senior lecturer at the National University of Singapore, and executive director at Knight Frank. Matthias Yao Chih ( zh, s=姚智, p=Yáo Zhì, born 12 January 1956) is a Singaporean former politician. A former member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Marine Parade GRC between 1991 and 1997, and MacPherson SMC between 1997 and 2011. During his political career, he had served as a Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, the Mayor of the South East District and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. The MacPherson Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency located in the central area of Singapore. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is Tin Pei Ling of the People's Action Party (PAP). 2006 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 6 May 2006. President of Singapore, President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 20 April 2006 on the advice of Prime Minister of Singapore, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong three weeks before the election. The People's Action Party (PAP) won 66.6% of the overall votes and gained 82 out of 84 seats. The PAP held the office of Prime Minister for a twelfth consecutive term. Jalan Besar Group Representation Constituency is a four-member Group Representation Constituency composed of several city suburbs surrounding the Central Area of Singapore. There are four wards in the GRC: Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng, Kolam Ayer, Whampoa and lastly Kampong Glam. General elections were held in Singapore on 3 November 2001. President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 18 October 2001 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won 82 of the 84 elected seats in Parliament. The National Solidarity Party ( abbreviation: NSP) is a political party in Singapore. History Beginnings The NSP was founded by a group of middle-class businessmen and women on 6 March 1987. The founding president and secretary-general of the party were Kum Teng Hock and Soon Kia Seng respectively. Kum was a former member of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) while Soon was the ex-chairman of the Singapore Democratic Party.
