Simpson Flyers
The Simpson Flyers were a senior hockey team based in Simpson, Saskatchewan. The Simpson Flyers played in the Long Lake Hockey League until the 1997/1998 season when the team combined with the Imperial Sabres to form the Long Lake Lightning. The Long Lake Lightning organization has since ceased operations, although the combined minor hockey teams of Simpson and Imperial still use the ''Long Lake Lightning'' name. Simpson ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Wood Creek No. 281 and Census Division No. 11. It is between the cities of Regina and Saskatoon on Highway 2. The administrative office for the Rural Municipality of Wood Creek No. 281 is located in the village. The post office was founded in 1911 by Herman Bergren and Joseph Newman during construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It is named after George Simpson, a governor of the Hudson's Bay Company. Hockey Saskatchewan is the governing body of all ice hockey in Saskatchewan. Hockey Saskatchewan is a branch of Hockey Canada. Hockey Saskatchewan was established as the Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association in 1906, and was later known as the Saskatchewan Hockey Association. History The Saskatchewan Amateur Hockey Association (SAHA) was established in 1906 to govern ice hockey in the province of Saskatchewan. Its senior ice hockey teams began competing for the Allan Cup in 1909. The SAHA became a charter member of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association when the national body was established in 1914. Junior ice hockey teams from Saskatchewan began competing for the Memorial Cup in 1919. The SAHA later shortened its name to the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA).
