Adrianus Johannes Simonis
Adrianus Johannes Simonis (26 November 1931 – 2 September 2020) was a Dutch cardinal of the Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Utrecht from 1983 to 2007, and was made a cardinal in 1985. Biography Simonis was born in Lisse, South Holland, the second eldest of eleven children. He studied at the Seminary of Hageveld from 1945 to 1951, and at the Major Seminary, Warmond, from 1951 to 1957. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Martien Jansen on 15 June 1957, and then did pastoral work in the Diocese of Rotterdam until 1959, serving as curate at the parish of Saint Victor in Waddinxveen and later at the parish Holy Martyrs Gorinchem in Rotterdam. From 1959 to 1966, he furthered his studies in Rome at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) and the Pontifical Biblical Institute, from where he obtained a doctorate '' cum laude'' in biblical exegesis with a thesis entitled: "Jesus as the Good Shepherd in the Gospel of Saint John". Heide Simonis
Heide Simonis (; born 4 July 1943 in Bonn as Heide Steinhardt) is a German Author and Politician. She is a member of the SPD. From 1993 to 2005 she served as the Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein. She was the first woman to serve as head of a state government in German history and the only woman to do so in the 20th century. Personal Life and Education Simonis earned her high school degree ( Abitur) in 1962 in Nürnberg. She then studied Economics and Sociology at the Universities of Erlangen-Nürnberg and Kiel, graduating with a degree in economics in 1967. She worked in different positions after 1967. Simonis is married to university professor Udo Simonis. Career Simonis joined the SPD in 1969. She was elected to the German Bundestag in 1976. Eugène Simonis
Louis-Eugène Simonis (11 July 1810, in Liège – 11 July 1893, in Koekelberg) was a Belgian sculptor. Career Simonis studied under François-Joseph Dewandre at the Academie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Liège and at the age of nineteen went to Italy, where he continued his studies in Bologna and Rome. When he returned to Belgium he accepted an instructor position at the Liege Academy. Later he moved to Brussels, where he became the director of the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts. Among his many students were the Belgian sculptors Thomas Vinçotte, Julien Dillens, and Charles Samuel. The square in Brussels, where Simonis had his studio, was given the name ''Eugène Simonis Square'' in his honor. A metro station in Brussels, completed in 1982, bears his name. Simonida Nemanjić ( sr-cyr, Симонида Немањић; c. 1294 – after 1336), born Simonis Palaiologina ( el, Σιμωνίς Παλαιολογίνα, sr. Симонида Палеолог, ''Simonida Paleolog''), was a Byzantine princess and queen consort of the Kingdom of Serbia, wife of Serbian king Stefan Milutin (r. 1282–1321). Queen Simonida was a daughter of the Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos (r. 1282–1328) and Irene of Montferrat. In Medieval Serbia Queen Simonida is best remembered as a patron of Fine Arts, Arts and Letters. Life Princess Simonida was born in Constantinople ca. 1294. In 1298, when a result of a Byzantine defeat, Emperor Andronikos II promised a marriage alliance to the Serbian ruler Milutin. Kazys Šimonis (25 August 1887 – 5 July 1978) was a famous Lithuanian painter. thumb Biography Kazys Šimonis was born on August 25, 1887 in , near Kupiškis, northern Lithuania. He studied organ, was also interested in history and ethnography. In 1909–1911, he went to work for his brother in the United States. In 1911, he returned to Lithuania, and was called up for military service in the Imperial Russian Army. He painted and studied episodically: with Tadas Daugirdas (1908–1910), with local painters while serving in the army in Kiev (1911–1917), Fedosejevo evening drawing courses (1917–1918) in Saint Petersburg. Szymon Starowolski (1588 – 1656; Simon Starovolscius) was a writer, scholar and historian in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. He was probably born near Pruzhany, and died near Kraków. The Simono were an indigenous people who lived in what is now part of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon and the U.S. state of Texas from at least the 16th century in the 18th century.
