Simone Koch
Simone Schnabel (née Koch; born 25 October 1969) is a German former competitive figure skater. She is the 1983 World Junior champion and represented East Germany at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Career Koch learned her first triple jumps with coach Ingeburg Walter at the Dresdner EC. Later she was coached by Ingrid Lehmann in Berlin. She represented the GDR and her club was SC Einheit Berlin. Koch won the World Junior Championships in 1983, at the age of 14. In 1984, she was awarded the silver medal at the World Junior Championships, placing behind another East German, Karin Hendschke. Koch won the silver medal at the 1984 East German Championships behind Katarina Witt. She placed 4th at the 1985 European Championships. In 1988, Koch won her second silver medal, again behind Witt, at the German Championships. She was sent to the 1988 Winter Olympics and placed 9th. Unna
Unna is a city of around 59,000 people in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the seat of the Unna district. The newly refurbished Unna station has trains to all major cities in North Rhine Westphalia including Dortmund, Cologne, Münster, Hamm, Düsseldorf and Wuppertal. The East German Figure Skating Championships were a figure skating competition held annually to determine the national champions of the German Democratic Republic, often referred to as ''East Germany''. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. Organized by the DELV (the national figure skating association of the GDR), the event was held annually from 1949 to 1990. During the same period, the German Figure Skating Championships were held in the Federal Republic of Germany, commonly known as ''West Germany''. The German Figure Skating Championships ( ger, Deutsche Meisterschaften im Eiskunstlaufen) are a figure skating national championship held annually to determine the national champions of Germany. Medals are awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. History Unofficial German Figure Skating Championships were held from 1887 to 1889 in Hamburg. The first official competition was held in Munich in 1891 in the men's category only. In its early years, Germany and the Austrian part of Austria-Hungary had joint championships. The second German champion Georg Zacharias, for example, is from Vienna, as was Gustav Hügel, who won in 1894.
