Simon Pavey
Simon Pavey (born 4 April 1967 in Sydney, Australia) is a motorcycle enduro and off road racer, currently based in Wales. Pavey started his racing career in Sydney in 1981 with a motorcross race in Appin and won his first race at the same circuit that year. He has since competed in numerous rally events worldwide including the Dakar Rally ten times, completing it seven times (including his first attempt in 1998). He gained recognition when he first trained Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman in off-road motorcycle riding for the TV series ''Long Way Round'' and then trained Boorman again to race off-road and compete in the Dakar Rally in 2006 for the TV series '' Race to Dakar''. During the event Boorman retired due to injury and Pavey went on to complete the race finishing in 86th position, his worst performance., and has high as 50th position in 1990. Enduro Riders
Enduro is a form of motorcycle sport run on extended cross-country, off-road courses. Enduro consists of many different obstacles and challenges. The main type of enduro event, and the format to which the World Enduro Championship is run, is a time-card enduro, whereby a number of stages are raced in a time trial against the clock. Time-keeping enduros In a traditional time-keeping enduro, riders leave together in groups or rows, and each row starts at a certain minute. The object of the event is to arrive at pre-defined checkpoints according to a strict schedule. Early or late arrivals result in the riders' scores being penalized. Throughout a day there will also be allocated periods for refuelling and servicing the machine. BMW Motorrad is the motorcycle brand of BMW, part of its Corporate and Brand Development division. It has produced motorcycles since 1923, and achieved record sales for the fifth year in succession in 2015. With a total of 136,963 vehicles sold in 2015, BMW registered a growth of 10.9% in sales in comparison with 2014. In May 2011, the 2,000,000th motorcycle produced by BMW Motorrad was an R1200GS. History The company began as an aircraft engine manufacturer in the early 20th century and through World War I. ''Long Way Round'' (''LWR'') is a British television series and book documenting the journey of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman from London to New York City on motorcycles. They travelled eastwards through Europe and Asia, flew to Alaska, and continued by road to New York.
