Simon Michael Fung Kui Heong
Datuk Simon Michael Fung Kui Heong (3 June 1931 – 16 November 1985) was a Malaysian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was named as the third Vicar Apostolic of the Vicariate of Kota Kinabalu (now Archdiocese) and Titular Bishop of Catabum Castra in 1975, and then was elevated as the first Bishop of the Diocese of Kota Kinabalu in 1977, with both positions given by Pope Paul VI. He was the first Sabahan to ever become a Bishop in Malaysia. He died on 16 November 1985, two days after his 10th episcopal ordination anniversary. Priestly ministry Simon Fung was born on 3 June 1931 in Sandakan. He decided to enter the priesthood by entering the College General Major Seminary Penang in 1955 and was ordained a priest in 1963. Some of the posts that he served are Keningau (1964-1966), Tambunan (1966-1968) and Kudat (1968-1970). The prelate then continued his studies to gain his Doctorate in Divinity. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Kota Kinabalu
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu (Lat: ''Archdioecesis Kotakinabaluensis'') is a Metropolitan archdiocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Sabah, a state of Malaysia on the island of Borneo. The Archdiocese is the oldest ecclesiastical territory in Malaysia, with a long history slowly rising along with the Catholic population from a prefecture to an Archdiocese. Its Cathedral archepiscopal see is Sacred Heart Cathedral, Kota Kinabalu. History Originally erected on 4 September 1855 as the Apostolic prefecture of Labuan and Borneo, created on territory split off from the then Apostolic Vicariate of Batavia (Java) (including the neighbouring Dutch East Indies). Peter Chung Hoan Ting
Peter Chung Hoan Ting (born 10 September 1928) was the metropolitan archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kuching, Malaysia from 1976 to 2003, the first archbishop of the diocese. Chung entered the diocesan minor seminary of the Diocese of Laohekou in 1940. In 1947, he entered the Regional Major Seminary at Hankou. However, in 1949, during the communist insurgency, the entire seminary was moved to Hong Kong and later to Macau. In 1954, he graduated from the seminary and arrived in Kuching for his priestly ordination on 26 September. He was ordained by Bishop John Vos and became the first priest to be ordained in Sarawak. In 1966, he was sent to study canon law in Rome and obtained a Doctorate of Canon Law. On 1 September 1970, Pope Paul VI appointed Chung as Coadjutor Vicar Apostolic of Kota Kinabalu and Titular Bishop of Acelum. The Malay language has a complex system of styles, titles and honorifics which are used extensively in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the southern Philippines. Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and several provinces in Indonesia regularly award honorary and life titles. What follows in this article is specific to the Malaysian system. A Christian mission is an organized effort for the propagation of the Christian faith. Pope Paul VI ( la, Paulus VI; it, Paolo VI; born Giovanni Battista Enrico Antonio Maria Montini, ; 26 September 18976 August 1978) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City, Vatican City State from 21 June 1963 to his death in August 1978.
