Simon Cooper (banker)
Simon Cooper is a British banker. Since 2018 he has been the chief executive officer of the Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking division of Standard Chartered, its largest global business with approximately USD8.4 billion in underlying operating income. He also serves as CEO of the bank’s Europe and Americas region and is chairman of the group’s global Diversity and Inclusion Council. Cooper has been in banking for three decades, much of that time at HSBC in roles across Asia and the Middle East including chief executive of Global Commercial Banking, CEO of HSBC Middle East and North Africa, CEO of Korea and head of corporate and investment banking in Singapore. Major General Sir Simon Christie Cooper, (born 1936) is a retired British Army officer who served as Major-General commanding the Household Division and General Officer Commanding London District and later Master of the Household to the Sovereign. Military career Born the son of Major General Kenneth Cooper and educated at Winchester College and at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Cooper was commissioned into the Life Guards in 1956. He served in Aden, then in London, and in the British Army of the Rhine from 1957 to 1963 when he became Adjutant of the Household Cavalry Regiment. He next became Aide-de-Camp to the Chief of the General Staff in 1965. In 1966 and 1967 he served in Borneo during the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation and Malaya during the Malayan Emergency. Wainwright Prize
The Wainwright Prize is a literary prize awarded annually for the best work of general outdoors, nature and UK-based travel writing. In 2020 it was split into the Wainwright Prize for UK nature writing and the Wainwright Prize for writing on global conservation, with separate longlists and judging panels. It is restricted to books published in the UK. For three years from 2022 the prizes will be sponsored by Kendal paper-makers James Cropper plc and known as the James Cropper Wainwright Prizes. A prize for writing for children was introduced in 2022, the three prizes being the James Cropper Wainwright Prize for Nature Writing, the James Cropper Wainwright Prize for Writing on Conservation and the James Cropper Wainwright Prize for Children's Writing on Nature and Conservation.
