Simmie Hill
Simmie Hill, Jr. (November 14, 1946 – July 14, 2013) was an American professional basketball player. At 6'7", he played the forward position. Born in Midland, Pennsylvania, Hill attended Midland High School, where he starred on the school's basketball team alongside Norm Van Lier. During his senior year, Hill scored 652 points and led the Midland Leopards to the Pennsylvania State Championship. He spent his college career at Wichita State University (where he played on the freshman team as first year students were not eligible to play varsity basketball at that time), Cameron Junior College and West Texas State University, and after his senior year was named a first team All American by '' The Sporting News''. Midland, Pennsylvania
Midland is a borough located along the Ohio River in western Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2020 census, the borough population was 2,430. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Founded in 1906, it was initially a company town surrounding the Crucible Steel Company's Midland Works. History Native American petroglyphs exist in the area surrounding Midland, including on Babbs Island, the Little Beaver Creek, and Shippingport Bridge. In 1905, Pittsburgh agent T.K. Miller purchased land on behalf of a group of industrialists who would form the Midland Steel Company and with it, the borough of Midland as a company town in 1906.
