Sim Sajeong
Sim Sajeong (1707 - 1769), was a representative painter in the literati artist's style along with Jeong Seon in 18th Joseon period. He learned to paint from Jeong Seon, so he was influenced by his teacher. He was good at almost all genres of painting such as '' muninhwa'' (문인화, painting in the literati style), '' sansuhwa'' (산수화, landscape painting), '' yeongmohwa'' (영모화, animal-and-bird painting), '' inmulhwa'' (figure painting). Sim (Korean Name)
Shim or Sim is a Korean surname. There are six Shim clans in Korea based in the regions of Cheongsong, Pungsan, Samcheok, Buyu, Uiryeong, and Jeonju. The biggest Shim clan is Cheongsong; they comprise about 85% of all those with the surname Shim. Fourteen percent of all Korean Shims are members of the Pungsan and Samcheok clans. As of 2000, there were 252,255 people with this surname in South Korea, less than 1% of the population. Jeong Seon
Jeong Seon ( ko, 정선) (1676 – 20 April 1759) was a Korean landscape painter, also known by the pen name Kyomjae. His ''cha'' was Wonbaek and another ''ho'' was Nangok. His works include ink and oriental water paintings, such as ''Inwangjesaekdo'' (1751), ''Geumgang jeondo'' (1734), and ''Ingokjeongsa'' (1742), as well as numerous "true-view" landscape paintings on the subject of Korea and the history of its culture. He is counted among the most famous Korean painters. The landscape paintings that he produced reflect most of the geographical features of Korea. His style is realistic rather than abstract. Biography Jeong was born on 16 February 1676, in the Jongno District of Seoul, in the Cheongun-dong neighborhood. Joseon Dynasty
Joseon (; ; Middle Korean: 됴ᇢ〯션〮 Dyǒw syéon or 됴ᇢ〯션〯 Dyǒw syěon), officially the Great Joseon (; ), was the last dynastic kingdom of Korea, lasting just over 500 years. It was founded by Yi Seong-gye in July 1392 and replaced by the Korean Empire in October 1897. The kingdom was founded following the aftermath of the overthrow of Goryeo in what is today the city of Kaesong. Early on, Korea was retitled and the capital was relocated to modern-day Seoul. The kingdom's northernmost borders were expanded to the natural boundaries at the rivers of Amrok and Tuman through the subjugation of the Jurchens. ''Shan shui'' (; pronounced ) refers to a style of traditional Chinese painting that involves or depicts scenery or natural landscapes, using a brush and ink rather than more conventional paints. Korean Painting
Korean painting includes paintings made in Korea or by overseas Koreans on all surfaces. The earliest surviving Korean paintings are murals in the Goguryeo tombs, of which considerable numbers survive, the oldest from some 2,000 years ago (mostly now in North Korea), with varied scenes including dancers, hunting and spirits. It has been hypothesized the Takamatsuzuka Tomb in Japan, from the 7th-century end of the Goguryeo period, has paintings with Goguryeo influence, either done by Goguryeo artists, or Japanese one trained by Goguryeo people. Since a lot of influences came into the Korean peninsula from China during the Three Kingdoms period. Korean arts include traditions in calligraphy, music, painting and pottery, often marked by the use of natural forms, surface decoration and bold colors or sounds.
