Silver Lake (Silver Lake, Florida)
Silver Lake is an almost circular, natural freshwater lake in Lake County, Florida. Silver Lake Drive surrounds the lake. Much of it is surrounded by residences and private boat and fishing docks, which dot the lake. On the northeast is Silver Lake Country Club, on the southeast is the Lake-Sumter State College campus and a flight line of Leesburg International Airport. Also, inside the end of the flight line is the Leesburg Dog Park. All of the lake is inside the city of Silver Lake, Florida. There is no public boat ramp or swimming beach. Silver Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Silver Lake is located in central Lake County and is bordered to the south by the city of Leesburg. U.S. Route 441 runs just south of Silver Lake, leading west to the center of Leesburg and east the same distance to Tavares, the Lake county seat. Florida Lakewatch, established in 1986, is a volunteer water-monitoring program coordinated through the University of Florida. This project is headquartered at Gainesville, Florida, within the campus of the University of Florida. Florida Lakewatch has in its history obtained funding from a number of sources, but currently is mostly funded by the state of Florida. Volunteer involvement There are more than 5,400 lakes in Florida and a number of rivers. The Florida Lakewatch program provides support to citizens interested in monitoring lakes and providing data they collect for the program. Lake County is a county in the central portion of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 383,956. Its county seat is Tavares, and its largest city is Clermont.
