Silver Brumby
The ''Silver Brumby'' series is a collection of fiction children's books by Australian author Elyne Mitchell. They recount the life and adventures of Thowra, a magnificent palomino brumby (Australian wild horse) stallion, and his descendants, and are set in the Snowy Mountains and southern regions of Australia. Characters Thowra: The Silver Brumby, Ghost Stallion. His cream coat, silvery mane and tail lead him to be hunted by man throughout his life. Bel Bel: Thowra's cream coloured mother (she looks like Thowra, however, her coat is a little darker). She taught him all she knew of the high country and of the dangers of man. Flaxen Gene
Flaxen is a genetic trait in which the mane and tail of chestnut-colored horses are noticeably lighter than the body coat color, often a golden blonde shade. Manes and tails can also be a mixture of darker and lighter hairs. Certain horse breeds such as the Haflinger carry flaxen chestnut coloration as a breed trait. It is seen in chestnut-colored animals of other horse breeds that may not be exclusively chestnut. The degree of expression of the trait is highly variable, with some chestnuts being only slightly flaxen while others are more so. Flaxen was once thought to be produced by a recessive allele, based on preliminary studies, proposed as ''Ff'' for ''flaxen''. The Silver Brumby (TV Series)
''The Silver Brumby'' is an Australian animated children's television series written by Jon Stephens, Judy Malmgren and Paul Williams based on Elyne Mitchell's Silver Brumby books. A total of 39 episodes were produced by Media World Features between 1996 and 1998 and was originally broadcast on Network Ten. Plot The series focuses on Thowra, a silver colt, his brothers Storm and Arrow and their friends the bush animals in their continued quest to resist the Men's efforts to capture them. ''The Silver Brumby'' is a 1958 novel for children by Australian author Elyne Mitchell. It was commended for the Children's Book of the Year Award: Older Readers in 1959. Story outline The story follows the fortunes of a young stallion in a herd of brumbies in the Australian mountain country as he fights his way to the leadership of the herd.
