Siluete
Siluete ( sr-cyr, Силуете, trans. ''The Silhouettes'') were a Serbian and Yugoslav rock band formed in Belgrade in 1961. They were one of the pioneers of the Yugoslav rock scene. Soon after the formation, Siluete, fronted by charismatic vocalist Zoran Miščević, gained the attention of the audience with their live performances. In 1963 the original members of the band departed, a part of the original lineup continuing with new members as The Shadows-inspired instrumental band, and later performing with vocalist Tomi Sovilj. In 1964 Miščević returned to Siluete, and the band soon gained nationwide fame thanks to their energetic and sometimes transgressive live performances. During the 1960s they were one of the most popular Yugoslav rock bands, Miščević becoming the first superstar of the Yugoslav rock scene. Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete ( sr-Cyrl, Томи Совиљ и Његове Силуете; trans. ''Tommy Sovilj and His Silhouettes'') were a Yugoslav beat group formed in Belgrade in 1964. They were one of the pioneers of the Yugoslav rock scene. In 1964, after leaving the band Siluete, vocalist Tomislav "Tomi" Sovilj formed his own band with the same name. After a court verdict forbidding his band to perform under the name Siluete, the band was renamed to Tomi Sovilj i Njegove Siluete. Elipse (band)
Elipse ( sr-Cyrl, Елипсе; trans. ''The Ellipses'') were a Yugoslav rock band formed in Belgrade in 1962. The band were one of the pioneers of the Yugoslav rock scene. Elipse initially performed beat music and rhythm and blues. With the arrival of vocalist Edi Dekeng, the band added a brass section and moved towards soul music. During the six years of the band's activity, they were one of the most popular bands in Yugoslavia. Their releases and live performances were praised by the press, and the Yugoslav media compared their rivalry with the band Siluete to the one between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Zoran Simjanović
Zoran Simjanović (; 11 May 1946 – 11 April 2021) was a Serbian and Yugoslav musician, composer and music educator. Simjanović started his career in 1961, as the keyboardist for the rock band Siluete. In 1962, he moved to the band Elipse, with which he achieved nationwide popularity. After Elipse disbanded in 1968, Simjanović graduated at the Belgrade Music Academy and dedicated himself to composing. He wrote songs for popular Yugoslav singers, and, since 1973, started composing scores for cinema, television and theatre in Yugoslavia and abroad, spawning many different genres. He wrote music for 65 feature films, winning numerous awards for his scores. He was a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, the Faculty of Music Arts in Belgrade and the University of Montenegro Music Academy in Cetinje. Dah (band)
Dah ( sr-cyr, Дах, trans. ''Breath'') was a Yugoslav and later Belgian progressive rock band formed in Belgrade in 1972. Dah was formed by guitarist Zlatko Manojlović and guitarist and vocalist Branko Marušić "Čutura", the two previously performing together in the band Džentlmeni. After the release of Dah's debut single in 1973, Marušić left the band, so Manojlović took the singing duties. After the release of their debut album, ''Veliki cirkus'' (1974), which brought the nationwide hit "Šošana", the band moved to Belgium, changing their name to Land. After spending a year in Belgium and having an international hit with the English language version of "Šošana", the band returned to Yugoslavia, where they released their second album, ''Povratak'' (1976). Popular music in Yugoslavia includes the pop and rock music of the former SFR Yugoslavia, including all their genres and subgenres. Džentlmeni ( sr-Cyrl, Џентлмени, lit=The Gentlemen) were a Yugoslav rock band formed in Belgrade in 1966. A year after the formation, the band split into two factions. The first faction featured original rhythm guitarist Milan Buza, and the other featuring original bass guitarist Živorad "Žika" Jelić and drummer Velibor "Boka" Bogdanović, the first disbanding after a year and a half and the second continuing their career with Žika Jelić's brother, Dragan "Dragi" Jelić (guitar), Mihajlo Simikić (tenor saxophone, clarinet, piano and vocals), and Branko Marušić "Čutura" (vocals, rhythm guitar), achieving nationwide popularity and eventually becoming one of the most popular Yugoslav bands of the 1960s. The Shadows (originally known as the Drifters) were an English instrumental rock group, who dominated the British popular music charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s, in the pre- Beatles era. They served as the backing band for Cliff Richard from 1958 to 1968, and have joined him for several reunion tours. The Shadows have had 69 UK chart singles from the 1950s to the 2000s, 35 credited to the Shadows and 34 to Cliff Richard and the Shadows. The group, who were in the forefront of the UK beat-group boom, were the first backing band to emerge as stars.
