Silkworm (band)
Silkworm was an American indie rock band active from 1987 to 2005 whose core members were Tim Midyett, Andy Cohen, and Michael Dahlquist. History Origins: 1985–1987 Founding members Tim Midyett (formerly Midgett), Joel RL Phelps, and Andy Cohen began writing and performing under the name Ein Heit in Missoula, Montana from 1985 to 1987. In 1987, they adopted the name Silkworm. Relocation: 1987–1990 They relocated to Seattle in 1990, where they met drummer Michael Dahlquist. During a radio interview on WNUR at Northwestern University, Steve Albini called in to contact the band. Albini had attended Hellgate High School, the same high school that Phelps, Midyett, and Cohen attended in Missoula, Montana. This connection led to Albini recording the band's album '' In the West''. Phelps left the band in 1994 due to mental health issues and the rigors of touring. ''In the West'' is the second full-length album by indie rock band Silkworm, released in 1994. It was the band's first full-length album to be produced by their long-time friend Steve Albini; the first official recording that the band recorded with him was the ''His Absence Is A Blessing'' EP. In March 2019, Comedy Minus One announced they would be pressing ''In The West'' on vinyl for the first time to celebrate the album's 25th anniversary. The reissue was released in January 2020. Libertine (Silkworm Album)
''Libertine'' is the third full-length studio album by indie rock band Silkworm. It was released in 1994 on El Recordo. It was their last recorded release before guitarist/vocalist Joel RL Phelps left the band. A remastered and expanded 2x12" + CD reissue of the record, including the group's ''Marco Collins Sessions'' EP and two additional tracks, was issued by Comedy Minus One in May 2014. Production The album was recorded over three days with Steve Albini. Critical reception ''Trouser Press'' wrote that "although it still emphasizes snap and crackle over pop, ''Libertine'' is slightly more immediate than its predecessors." ''Magnet'' called "Couldn't You Wait?" a "lost classic" of the era; the track provided the title to the 2013 documentary film about the band. Clint Conley
Clinton J. Conley is an American post-punk musician and journalist from Boston, Massachusetts, best known as a co-founder, bassist, and vocalist of Mission of Burma. Early life and education Conley was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Rochester in 1977. Career Mission of Burma was active from 1979 to 1983. They found only limited success when signed to Ace of Hearts Records, but they have been re-assessed as one of the more influential American post-punk groups of their era. The band was cited as an influence for Pixies, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam. When the group broke up in 1983, Conley dropped out of music almost entirely for over a decade, earning a master's degree in broadcast journalism and going to work as a producer for WCVB-TV's news magazine program, ''Chronicle''. Gerard Cosloy
Gerard Cosloy (born 1964) is an American music industry executive. Biography Cosloy was raised in Wayland, Massachusetts, a western suburb of Boston. While he was in high school, he became involved in the local hardcore punk scene, put together many punk shows, and started Conflict, a mimeographed fanzine of underground and alternative rock and art. He continued to write and edit the fanzine during the '80s and early '90s. He never finished college thought he did briefly attend the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he contributed reviews to "Daily Collegian" the college newspaper. In 1984, Cosloy got a job at Homestead Records an independent label created by the Dutch East India Trading Co., a Long Island-based record distributor. He moved to New York for the position. Homestead put out many of the mid-80s defining alt-rock records, from Big Black, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., My Dad Is Dead, The Membranes and many others. Steve Albini (pronounced ; born July 22, 1962) is an American musician, record producer, audio engineer and music journalist. He was a member of Big Black, Rapeman and Flour, and is a member of Shellac. He is the founder, owner and principal engineer of Electrical Audio, a recording studio complex in Chicago. In 2018, Albini estimated that he had worked on several thousand albums over his career. Jeffrey Scot Tweedy (born August 25, 1967) is an American musician, songwriter, author, and record producer best known as the singer and guitarist of the band Wilco. Jeanette Sliwinski (born 1982) is an American former model. She was found guilty of reckless homicide for an incident on July 14, 2005 when she attempted suicide while driving, causing a crash that resulted in the deaths of three local musicians, John Glick, Douglas Meis, and Michael Dahlquist. The New Year is an American indie rock band that formed in 1999. The band was started by former Bedhead (band), Bedhead members Matt and Bubba Kadane. They released their first album in 2001, ''Newness Ends'', which like their following albums was recorded with Steve Albini.
