Sigurlás Þorleifsson
Sigurlás Þorleifsson ( – 24 April 2018) was an Icelandic footballer. He was part of the Iceland national football team between 1979 and 1982. He played 10 matches, scoring 2 goals. With Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur he was topscorer of the 1979 Úrvalsdeild with twelve goals. Later with his club Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja he was again topscorer af the 1981 Úrvalsdeild (12 goals) and 1982 Úrvalsdeild (10 goals). With Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja he also competed in the 1980–81 European Cup, scoring 1 goal against Baník Ostrava. Death Sigurlás collapsed while on a hike with friends on Heimaklettur in Heimaey on 24 April 2018. Heimaey
Heimaey (), is an Icelandic island. At , it is the largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, and the largest and most populated island off the Icelandic coast. Heimaey is off the south coast of Iceland. It is the only populated island of the Vestmannaeyjar islands, with a population of 4,414. The Vestmannaeyjar Airport and the Westman Islands Golf Club taken together cover a good portion of the island. In January 1973, lava flow from nearby Eldfell destroyed half the town and threatened to close its harbour, its main income source. An operation to cool the advancing lava with sea water saved the harbour. Vestmannaeyjar (, sometimes anglicized as Westman Islands) is a municipality and archipelago off the south coast of Iceland. The largest island, Heimaey, has a population of 4,414, most of whom live in the archipelago's main town, Vestmannaeyjabær. The other islands are uninhabited, although six have single hunting cabins. Vestmannaeyjar came to international attention in 1973 with the eruption of Eldfell volcano, which destroyed many buildings and forced a month-long evacuation of the entire population to mainland Iceland. ''DV'' (''Dagblaðið Vísir'') is an online newspaper in Iceland published by Torg ehf. It came into existence as a daily newspaper in 1981 when two formerly independent newspapers, Vísir and Dagblaðið, merged. Early on it was one of the largest newspapers in Iceland and at one point had a 64% readership in Iceland. Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur, commonly referred to as Víkingur or Víkingur Reykjavík (to distinguish them from Víkingur Ólafsvík) and internationally known as Vikingur F.C., is an Icelandic sports club based in the Fossvogur neighbourhood of Reykjavík.
