Jóhann Sigurjónsson
Jóhann Sigurjónsson (June 19, 1880 – August 31, 1919) was an Icelandic playwright and poet. Atypically, Jóhann wrote plays and poetry in both his native Icelandic and in Danish. Biography Jóhann was the son of an Icelandic farmer and was born in Laxamýri, Iceland. In 1899 he emigrated to Denmark to study at The Royal Danish Veterinary and Agricultural University, but abandoned his studies in 1902 to devote himself to literature. During this period, he came under the influence of the Danish writer Georg Brandes and the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. He is probably best known for his play ''Fjalla-Eyvindur'' (Danish: ''Bjærg-Ejvind og hans hustru'', English: ''Eyvindur of the Mountains''), which was first published in 1911. The play was a success in Germany and Scandinavia and was also produced in the United States. It was cinematised by Victor Sjöström in 1918 as ''The Outlaw and His Wife''. Rúnar Már Sigurjónsson
Rúnar Már Sigurlaugarson Sigurjónsson (born 18 June 1990) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Liga I club FC Voluntari. He started out his senior career at local team Tindastóll, after which he went on to compete professionally in the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Kazakhstan and Romania. Rúnar recorded his full debut for Iceland in November 2012, in a 2–0 friendly win over Andorra in which he scored. Frosti Sigurjónsson (born December 19, 1962 in Reykjavík) is an Icelandic businessman and politician. He was a member of parliament for the Progressive Party from 2013 to 2016. Frosti has an MBA from the London Business School (1991). He has had prominent roles in various Icelandic companies. From 1999 to 2005 he served as chair of the board of CCP Games. In 2005 he co-founded the travel search engine Dohop where he served until 2010 as managing director and then as CEO. He was also co-founder and from 2009 to 2013 CEO of DataMarket, a company active in the field of information visualization. Following the Icelandic parliamentary elections of April 27, 2013 Frosti was a member of the Icelandic parliament for the constituency Reykjavík North. Guðmundur Sigurjónsson (born 25 September 1947) is an Icelandic chess grandmaster. He is a three-time Icelandic Chess Champion. Chess career Born in 1947, Guðmundur earned his international master title in 1970 and his grandmaster title in 1975. He won the Icelandic Chess Championship three times (1965, 1968 and 1972). Oliver Sigurjónsson (born 3 March 1995) is an Icelandic football midfielder, who is currently plays for Breiðablik as a midfielder. Gordon Sigurjonsson
Guðmundur "Gordon" Sigurjónsson (15 April 1883 – 14 January 1967) was an Icelandic athlete and trainer. A well known wrestler in his home country, he was part of a group of Icelanders that showcased Glíma at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was later a coach for the Canadian Winnipeg Falcons that won the first ever gold medal in Ice hockey at the 1920 Summer Olympics. Early life Guðmundur was born in Litluströnd at Mývatn on 15 April 1883 to Friðfinna Davíðsdóttir and Sigurjón Guðmundsson. He was the second youngest of 10 children. After being raised in poverty, he moved to Reykjavík in 1905, at the age of 22. There he started training Glíma, an Icelandic wrestle, which he quickly mastered. On 2 August 1907, he participated in the ''Konungsglíman'' (English: The King's wrestle) at Þingvellir, a Glíma competition in the honor of king Frederick VIII of Denmark visit to Iceland. Sigurður Sigurjónsson, commonly referred to as Siggi Sigurjóns, is an Icelandic actor, comedian and screenwriter, best known as a member of the comedy group Spaugstofan. He has starred in a number of films and television series since the late 1970s, as well as acting in the National Theatre of Iceland. He is famous for his recurring characters in the ''Spaugstofan'' television series, including Ragnar Reykás and ''Kristján Ólafsson''. Sigurður has starred in many seasons of the annual television special Áramótaskaupið. He is also one of the leading Icelandic voice actors and has dubbed numerous animated features. John Snorri Sigurjónsson
John Snorri Sigurjónsson (20 June 1973 – 5 February 2021) was an Icelandic high-altitude mountaineer. In May 2017, he became the first Icelander to summit Lhotse in the Himalayas, which is 8,516 meters high and the fourth highest mountain in the world. On July 28 of the same year, he became the first Icelander to summit K2. On 4 August 2017, he successfully summited Broad Peak (8051 m). On 5 February 2021, John Snorri along with Ali Sadpara and Juan Pablo Mohr went missing while attempting a K2 summit push from Camp 3. On 18 February, Pakistan authorities officially presumed the three men dead, but stated that the search for their remains would continue. On 26 July 2021, the bodies of the three missing mountaineers were found in the slopes above Camp 4.
