Sigifredo Nájera Talamantes
Sigifredo Nájera Talamantes (died 7 September 2015), commonly referred to by his alias El Canicón'','' was a Mexican drug lord and high-ranking leader of Los Zetas. Kingpin Act sanction On 24 March 2010, the United States Department of the Treasury sanctioned Nájera Talamantes under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act (sometimes referred to simply as the "Kingpin Act"), for his involvement in drug trafficking along with fifty-three other international criminals and ten foreign entities. The act prohibited U.S. citizens and companies from doing any kind of business activity with him, and virtually froze all his assets in the U.S. Arrest He was captured on 23 March 2009. This is a list of Mexico's 37 most-wanted drug lords as published by Mexican federal authorities on 23 March 2009. According to a ''BBC Mundo'' Mexico report, the 37 drug lords "have jeopardized México national security." As of 8 January 2016, 25 drug lords had been captured, eight had been killed and four remained fugitives. As of 2022, the single remaining fugitive of the 37 most-wanted drug lords is Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada who has never been arrested and incarcerated. The Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act, better known as the Kingpin Act, is landmark federal legislation in the United States intended to address international narcotics trafficking by imposing United States sanctions on foreign persons and entities involved in the drug trade. The Act allows the President of the United States and United States Secretary of the Treasury to publicly identify "significant foreign narcotics traffickers" and to freeze their assets. A drug lord, drug baron, kingpin or narcotrafficker is a high-ranking crime boss who controls a sizable network of people involved in the illegal drug trade.
