Sifu (video Game)
''Sifu'' is a beat 'em up video game developed and published by French studio Sloclap. Set in modern-day China, players control the child of a martial arts school's ''sifu'' (master) who seeks revenge on those responsible for their father's death. Every time the protagonist dies, they are resurrected by a magical talisman and age up, gaining access to more powerful attacks but reducing their health. When the player character becomes too old, they can die permanently, in which case players must restart the level from the beginning and from the same age as their initial attempt. The game was released on 8 February 2022 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows, on 8 November 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, and on 28 March 2023 for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It received generally positive reviews, with praise for its combat, environments, and story, and sold more than 1 million units within one month of release. Shifu () in Mandarin, or sifu in Cantonese, or sai hu in Hokkien, is a title for, and the role of, a skillful person or a master. The character 師/师 means "skilled person" or "teacher," while 傅 means "tutor" and 父 means "father." In video games, a boss is a significant computer-controlled opponent. A fight with a boss character is commonly referred to as a boss battle or boss fight. Bosses are generally far stronger than other opponents the player has faced up to that point.
