Sierra Arana
The Sierra Arana or Sierra de Arana, also known as Sierra Harana, is a mountain range in the center of the province of Granada, southern Spain. Its highest peak is the Peña de la Cruz, at . Description The Sierra Arana is a mostly karstic range, part of the larger Subbaetic System. According to some geographers it includes other ranges such as the Sierra de Cogollos, the Sierra de la Yedra and the Sierra de Alfacar y Víznar. Municipalities located in the Sierra Arana include Deifontes, Iznalloz, Cogollos Vega, Huétor Santillán, Diezma, Darro, La Peza, Píñar, Morelábor, and Huélago. The area of the range is bounded in the north by the Comarca of Los Montes and its southern end is included in the area of the Sierra de Huétor and la Alfaguara Natural Park. Cogollos Vega
Cogollos Vega is a municipality in the province of Granada, Spain, located at the feet of the Sierra de Cogollos. As of 2010, it had a population of 2068 inhabitants. It is Located in the northern part of the province, about 14 km from the provincial capital, Granada. It borders the municipalities of Deifontes, Iznalloz, Huétor Santillán, Nívar, Güevéjar, Calicasas and Albolote. History There are traces which show there was settlement here during the Palaeolithic era. Remains have been found of Romans and Visigoths, as well as Arabs. Baetic System
The Baetic System or Betic System ( es, Sistema Bético) is one of the main systems of mountain ranges in Spain. Located in the southern and eastern Iberian Peninsula, it is also known as the Cordilleras Béticas (Baetic Mountain Ranges) or Baetic Mountains. The name of the mountain system derives from the ancient Roman region of Baetica, one of the Imperial Roman provinces of ancient Hispania. The Sierra de Huétor and la Alfaguara Natural Park ( es, Parque Natural de la Sierra de Huétor y la Alfaguara) is a natural park in Andalusia, Spain. It is located near Granada city and was established in 1989. Topography The area of the park includes mountain ranges of moderate altitude such as the Sierra de Huétor, Sierra de la Alfaguara, Sierra de Cogollos, Sierra de Diezma, Sierra de Beas, Sierra de la Yedra as well as the southern end of the Sierra de Arana. Los Montes is a Spanish region located in the northern part of the province of Granada, community of Andalusia, Spain. Diezma
Diezma is a municipality located in the province of Granada, Andalusia - Spain. It lies between the Sierra de Huétor Natural Park and the new reservoir of Francisco Abellan. History Some think the name of this municipality came from the Roman era and others from the tributes that were paid to the Church during the phase of the Visigoths. In any case, it is clear that during the Roman Empire, Diezma was a kind of hospice for travellers who were on the Via Augusta between ''Acci'' and ''Iliberis''. Later, during the Islamic domination of Spain, it became a farming country. It suffered frequent incursions by the Zirids first, and then knights of Alfonso VI before the final conquest by the Catholic Monarchs.
