WikiProject Aircraft
A WikiProject, or Wikiproject, is a Wikimedia movement affinity group for contributors with shared goals. WikiProjects are prevalent within the largest wiki, Wikipedia, and exist to varying degrees within sister projects such as Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikidata, and Wikisource. They also exist in different languages, and translation of articles is a form of their collaboration. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CBS News noted the role of Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine in maintaining the accuracy of articles related to the disease. Another WikiProject that has drawn attention is WikiProject Women Scientists, which was profiled by '' Smithsonian'' for its efforts to improve coverage of women scientists which the profile noted had "helped increase the number of female scientists on Wikipedia from around 1,600 to over 5,000". On Wikipedia Some Wikipedia WikiProjects are substantial enough to engage in cooperative activities with outside organizations relevant to the field at issue. For e ...

Junkers K 16
The Junkers K 16 was a small airliner produced in Germany in the early 1920s. It was a conventional, high-wing Cantilever#Aircraft, cantilever monoplane of all-metal construction, equipped with fixed, Conventional landing gear, tailwheel undercarriage. The pilot sat in an open cockpit, while the two passengers were provided with an enclosed Aircraft cabin, cabin within the fuselage. Shortly after the prototype flew, aircraft production in Germany was brought to a complete halt by the Allies of World War II, Allies, and the K 16 was quickly evacuated to the Netherlands to avoid confiscation. There, it was stored by Fokker until the restrictions were relaxed and work recommenced at Junkers' Dessau factory in 1924. By this time, however, the airline niche that the tiny K 16 had been intended to fill no longer existed, and the small number that were produced were mostly sold to private owners. Junkers entered two K 16s in the 1925 Deutsche Rundflug, with one machine winning second p ...

Aircraft Air-cooled Radial Piston Engines
An aircraft is a vehicle that is able to fly by gaining support from the air. It counters the force of gravity by using either static lift or by using the dynamic lift of an airfoil, or in a few cases the downward thrust from jet engines. Common examples of aircraft include airplanes, helicopters, airships (including blimps), gliders, paramotors, and hot air balloons. The human activity that surrounds aircraft is called ''aviation''. The science of aviation, including designing and building aircraft, is called ''aeronautics.'' Crewed aircraft are flown by an onboard pilot, but unmanned aerial vehicles may be remotely controlled or self-controlled by onboard computers. Aircraft may be classified by different criteria, such as lift type, aircraft propulsion, usage and others. History Flying model craft and stories of manned flight go back many centuries; however, the first manned ascent — and safe descent — in modern times took place by larger hot-air ball ...

Focke-Wulf S 24
The Focke-Wulf S 24 ''Kiebitz'' (German: "Lapwing") was a sport aircraft built in Germany in the later 1920s. It was a single-bay biplane of conventional design with equal-span, unstaggered wings, braced with N-type interplane strut In aeronautics, bracing comprises additional structural members which stiffen the functional airframe to give it rigidity and strength under load. Bracing may be applied both internally and externally, and may take the form of strut, which act in ...s. The pilot and a single passenger sat in tandem open cockpits, and it was fitted with a fixed tailskid undercarriage. The wings could be folded for transportation or storage, and the aircraft was designed to be towed by a car. In 1929, the S 24 set a world distance record in its class of and in 1931 was used by Gerd Achgelis to win the German aerobatic championship. Udet U 6
The Udet U 1 was the first of a line of small, low-powered, low wing, cantilever monoplanes built in Germany in the early 1920s. Design and development In the summer of 1921, a new aviation company was formed using the WWI German flying ace Ernst Udet's name. William Pohl from Milwaukee, Hans Henry Herrmann and Erich Scheuermann joined the company to fund the aircraft before postwar treaty restrictions were lifted on aircraft production, with the intent of building an inexpensive aircraft for the American market. The builders produced and flew the U 1 five months before the formation of the Udet Flugzeubau GmbH company. The design was a low wing, cantilever monoplane in an era dominated by biplanes. The U 1 was a single-seater, as the air-cooled, Haacke HFM-2 flat-twin did not have enough power for more than one person. An enlarged-bore version of the engine, the HFM-2a was used in the two seat U-2. The U-2, like its predecessor, had a one-piece wing with a high aspect rat ...

Udet U 3
Ernst Udet (26 April 1896 – 17 November 1941) was a German pilot during World War I and a ''Luftwaffe'' Colonel-General (''Generaloberst'') during World War II. Udet joined the Imperial German Air Service at the age of 19, and eventually became a notable flying ace of World War I, scoring 62 confirmed victories by the end of his life. The highest scoring German fighter pilot to survive that war, and the second-highest scoring after Manfred von Richthofen, his commander in the Flying Circus, Udet rose to become a squadron commander under Richthofen, and later under Hermann Göring. Udet spent the 1920s and early 1930s as a stunt pilot, international barnstormer, light aircraft manufacturer, and playboy. In 1933, Udet joined the Nazi Party and became involved in the early development of the ''Luftwaffe'', where he was appointed director of research and development. Influential in the adoption of dive bombing techniques as well as the Stuka dive bomber, by 1939 Udet had ris ...

Dornier Libelle
The Dornier ''Libelle'' (en:"Dragonfly I"), also designated Do A, was a German open-cockpit, all-metal, parasol wing, monoplane flying boat aircraft, with partly fabric-covered wings. A landplane version, built without sponsons and fitted with a fixed tailwheel undercarriage was produced as the Dornier Spatz. Variants ;Do A :Two prototypes of the Libelle ;Libelle I :The standard production model, five built, fitted with Siemens-Halske Sh 4 engines and two built with Siemens-Halske Sh 5 engines. ;Libelle II :The improved Libelle II was powered by Siemens-Halske Sh 5 or Siemens-Halske Sh 11 engines. Other engines fitted to Libelle II aircraft include the Bristol Lucifer and the ADC Cirrus. Three built. Accidents A Dornier Libelle crashed into the sea off Milford beach in Auckland, New Zealand on 12 December 1929, killing both crewmen. Survivor A Libelle II ''VQ-FAB'', manufacturers number 117 built in 1925, which operated in Fiji, is displayed in the Deutsches Museum in the ce ...
