Siege Of Alcira
The Battle of Alzira took place in 1521, as viceroy Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, 1st Count of Melito, attempted to subjugate Alzira and end the Revolt of the Brotherhoods. In this battle, Alzira was supported by the Agermanado troops of Xàtiva and resisted the attacks for a year, until 9 December 1522, when the troops of the Viceroy entered the city. Diego Hurtado De Mendoza, 1st Count Of Melito
Diego Hurtado de Mendoza (in full, es, Don Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y Lemos, primer conte di Melito e di Aliano, Gran Giustiziere del Regno di Napoli) (1469–1536) was a Castilian general and administrator. He served in the Italian Wars, and was later appointed Viceroy of Valencia where he fought the rebel ''Germanies'' in the Revolt of the Brotherhoods. Early life Diego was the second son of Cardinal Pedro González de Mendoza and Mencia de Lemos (of the House of the Lords of Trofa, in Portugal), making him a member of the powerful Mendoza family. As Cardinal Mendoza was already a Cardinal, Diego was born out of wedlock. He was born on November 3, 1469, and raised in the castle of Manzanares el Real. Alzira ( es, Alcira) is a city and municipality of 45.088 inhabitants (62,094 floating population) in Valencia, eastern Spain. The Revolt of the Brotherhoods ( ca, Revolta de les Germanies, es, Rebelión de las Germanías) was a revolt by artisan guilds ('' Germanies'') against the government of King Charles V in the Kingdom of Valencia, part of the Crown of Aragon. It took place from 1519–1523, with most of the fighting occurring during 1521. The Valencian revolt inspired a related revolt in the island of Majorca, also part of Aragon, which lasted from 1521–1523. The revolt was an anti-monarchist, anti-feudal autonomist movement inspired by the Italian republics. It also bore a strong anti-Islamic aspect, as rebels rioted against Valencia's peasant Muslim population (also called mudéjars, to contrast with crypto-Muslims or Moriscos in the Crown of Castile, where Islam was outlawed) and imposed forced conversions to Christianity. Xàtiva
Xàtiva (, es, Játiva ) is a town in eastern Spain, in the province of Valencia, on the right (western) bank of the river Albaida and at the junction of the Valencia–Murcia and Valencia Albacete railways.
