Sidney Street is a major street in central Cambridge, England. It runs between Bridge Street, Cambridge, Bridge Street at the junction with Jesus Lane to the northwest and St Andrew's Street, Cambridge, St Andrew's Street at the junction with Hobson Street to the southeast. On the northeastern side of the street is the University of Cambridge college Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, Sidney Sussex College. Opposite the college, Green Street, Cambridge, Green Street, another shopping street, leads off to the west. To the southeast of the college is Sussex Street, Cambridge, Sussex Street. On the corner is the tall and distinctive Montagu House, part of Sidney Sussex College. Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge
Holy Trinity Church is a church in Market Street, Cambridge, Market Street, central Cambridge, England, on the corner with Sidney Street, Cambridge, Sidney Street. Its current vicar is Stuart Browning. Theologically, it stands within the charismatic movement, charismatic evangelical tradition of the Church of England. History The first Holy Trinity Church in Cambridge was next to the old Roman road and was just a small thatched timber building. This church burnt down in 1174. In 1189, a new stone church was begun. The stonework of the west wall under the tower is all that remains from the church of this time. By around 1350, money was raised to widen the nave and add two aisles. It provided bespoke legal advice to individuals, businesses and college institutions for 140 years. History The practice was established in 1873 by Samuel Reuben Ginn, the son of a St Ives’ solicitor, at his offices in Alexandra Street, Petty Cury. It leads from a junction with traffic lights on Hills Road ( A1307) to the Cambridge railway station. Alfred Waterhouse
Alfred Waterhouse (19 July 1830 – 22 August 1905) was an English architect, particularly associated with the Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, although he designed using other architectural styles as well. He is perhaps best known for his designs for Manchester Town Hall and the Natural History Museum in London, although he also built a wide variety of other buildings throughout the country. Besides his most famous public buildings he designed other town halls, the Manchester Assize buildings—bombed in World War II—and the adjacent Strangeways Prison.
