Sidney Blunt
Sidney Blunt (13 April 1902 – 1965) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Port Vale. Career Blunt began his career with his hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers but never appeared for their first team. He had spells at Worcester City, Bilston United and Lichfield City before joining Port Vale in May 1924. He played 36 Second Division and three FA Cup games in the 1924–25 season, and scored one goal in a 4–2 win over Clapton Orient at The Old Recreation Ground on 21 March. He appeared 26 times in the 1925–26 campaign and suffered a double fracture of his leg in a 3–0 home win over Swansea Town on 13 March. He could not regain his first-team place upon his recovery and instead was given a free transfer in May 1928. Bilston
Bilston is a market town, ward, and civil parish located in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England. It is close to the borders of Sandwell and Walsall. The nearest towns are Darlaston, Wednesbury, and Willenhall. Free Transfer (association Football)
In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. How it works The club acquiring the player does not have to pay any compensation for their release due to having nothing left to pay on their contract, hence, the term free transfer. Some individual leagues have restrictions to protect academies. For example, in the UK, players under 24 who are out of contract are only available on a free transfer if released by the club holding the players' licence. The Old Recreation Ground
The Old Recreation Ground was a football stadium located in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England, and home to Port Vale F.C. from 1913 to 1950. It was the sixth ground the club used. Structure and facilities The stadium was in rather bad condition, especially following years of neglect during World War II. The dressing rooms were bare, there were no toilet facilities throughout the entire ground, and racing pigeons were kept by '' The Sentinel'' and a number of supporters so as to relay the scoreline to different parts of the city. History Port Vale F.C. opened the ground in 1913, and six years later were admitted into the English Football League. The visit of Potteries derby rivals Stoke on 6 March 1920 saw a crowd of 22,697 turn up to see an away victory.
